Mt Vernon Police and Fire will be handing out bags of candy at the fire station today from 3:00 PM until they run out of candy. While you're there, check out the FREE haunted house on the other end of the station. American Thunder and a couple of other groups will also be giving out candy.
Trick or Treat Fudgery is back at 3 Chicks Fudgery today. They will be handing out free fudge cones to kids in costumes. This will take place from 2:00-6:00 PM today. They are located at 305 Main Street in Mt. Vernon.
North Posey Football took care of business on Friday in the second round of sectionals as the Vikings defeated the Paoli Rams on the road, 55-31. With the victory, North Posey improves to 9-2 and advances to the Class 2A Sectional 40 Championship game this Friday night. The Vikings will play Mater Dei at the Reitz Bowl at 7:00 PM. We will have the radio broadcast on 98.9 WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Jordan Fisher will bring you all the action on Friday with the pregame show at 6:45 PM.
Checking out other sectional championship matchups on Friday across the tri-state. In Class 5A Sectional 16, North (6-4) will play Castle (6-4) at 7:00 PM. The Class 4A Sectional 24 championship game is Memorial (8-3) at Boonville (8-3) at 7:00 PM. Moving on to Class 3A Sectional 30 where Pike Central (3-8) travels to Owen Valley (10-0) for a 7:00 PM kickoff. Finally in Class 1A Sectional 48, Tecumseh (10-0) will play at Providence (8-2) at 6:30 PM.
Agencies rushed to the scene Sunday afternoon after a plane crashed at the Helfrich Park Golf Course on 1550 Mesker Park Drive. The call for the crash came in at 1:59 PM. Dispatch says three of the four people inside the small plane were taken to the hospital. Sources say the plane is registered to a company out of Atlanta. According to FlightAware, the plane was on its way to Gallatin, Tennessee when it began descending at 7,000 feet around 1:45 PM. Just over ten minutes later, officials say the plane was down to 1600 feet and then completely went off radar. Federal Investigators are in Evansville today.
Tonight's Sports:
- No local High School games at either Mt. Vernon or North Posey. It is also a quiet night on the local college scene at UE and USI.
- The Indiana Pacers wrap up their five-game road trip in Brookly against the Nets at 6:30 PM. The Pacers are going for a third-straight win as they sit at 3-4 on the season.
- Week 8 of the NFL wraps up with Monday Night Football. The 4-3 Cincinnati Bengals play at the 2-5 Cleveland Browns at 7:15 PM.
- Game 3 of the World Series is tonight at 7:03 PM in Philadelphia between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies. The series is tied 1-1.
