The 101st West Side Nut Club Fall Festival got underway today on Franklin Street in Evansville. The very popular half pot booths opened at 10:00 AM this morning. They will be open every night this week until 10:00 PM. The selling of the Half Pot tickets will stop at 2:00 PM Saturday and the winner will be drawn Saturday evening at 8:00 PM. Last year’s Half Pot total hit a record high amount, surpassing 1.5 million dollars. The rides are open this evening and both the University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana Basketball teams will be on Franklin Street around 6:00 PM. The Lighthouse Parade will begin at 7:00 PM tonight with Amateur Hour following at 8:00 PM.
As of this past Saturday (October 1st), the Posey County Humane Society and Posey County Pound Puppies joined and became Newlife Rescue and Adoption. The Elks Lodge 277 is doing a cash raffle to benefit NewLife Rescue and Adoption. They are selling only 3,000 tickets and the drawing will be on October 15th. You can get your tickets at 131 East 4th Street in Mt. Vernon. Tickets are $10 each. 1st prize is $5,000, 2nd prize is $2,000, 3rd prize is $1,000 and 4th prize is $500.
Yesterday, the IHSAA released the brackets for the Girls Volleyball Sectionals which will get underway next week. In the Class 3A Sectional 32 hosted by Gibson Southern High School, Mt. Vernon Volleyball received a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Memorial and Gibson Southern. Mt. Vernon will play that match next Thursday, October 13th.
In the Class 2A Sectional 48 hosted by Perry Central, North Posey Volleyball will have to play the host school Perry Central in the first match on opening night. That match will be played next Tuesday, October 11th.
Coming up tonight on 106.7 WMVI, it’s another edition of the Mt. Vernon Football Coaches Show live from United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon. Join the voices of Mt. Vernon sports, Chris Cooke and Allen Buck as they chat with Coach Messmer from 5:30-6:00 PM. They will talk about last Friday’s game at Gibson Southern and get set for the Posey County battle this Friday at North Posey.

- Mt. Vernon JV Football is home against Gibson Southern at 6:00 PM.
- North Posey JV Football plays host to Forest Park at 5:30 PM.
- North Posey Volleyball travels to Princeton. The JV match starts at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:00 PM.
