A Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of drug dealing. 50-year-old Steven R. Robinson was sentenced after pleading guilty to dealing methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana. Robinson's vehicle was stopped by police in October of last year for driving without his headlights on. Officials say during the traffic stop, officers saw illegal narcotics in plain view inside the car. During a search of the vehicle, authorities say they found methamphetamine and more than 350 grams of synthetic marijuana. Robinson will be taken to the Indiana Department of Correction to serve his sentence. 

 

Tomorrow from 3-6 PM at McKim's IGA in Mt. Vernon, West Elementary is having their first fundraiser of the year. It is their PTO Ribfest. Price per slab is $18 and IGA graciously donates a portion of the sales back to West Elementary to support the kids and school. 

 

Posey County Workwear is having their grand opening this Saturday from 9 AM until 1 PM. They are located at 1 Competition Way in Mt. Vernon, which is next to Hawg N Sauce. They have a large selection of flame resistant and reflective clothing. Stop by on Saturday during their grand opening to shop and register to win a free pair of boots. 

 

The last day to apply for the Mt. Vernon River Days "Pay it Forward" award is noon this Friday, August 19th. If you are a Posey County non-profit group/organization that has a project that would benefit the community, then go to Mt. Vernon River Days website and download the app right away for a chance to be awarded up to $1000. The guidelines and instructions are also found on the website. After a two-year hiatus, the annual University of Southern Indiana Varsity Club Steak Fry'n Auction is returning to the Discovery Lodge at Burdette Park on Thursday, September 15th at 5:30 PM. Reservations will be taken until Thursday, September 8th. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a corporate table (seats 8) and can be purchased online at the USI Athletic Office. You can also mail in the order form with payment that can be found in the Steak Fry'n Auction brochure, or you can call Mandi Fulton at 812-465-1022. Enjoy Angus Beef steaks provided by Old Fashioned Butcher Shoppe, while a silent auction with theme baskets will precede a live auction that is conducted by Wilson Auction and Realty. It will have some of the best bargains around, including private vacation and golf packages, entertainment packages, autographed sports paraphernalia, and exclusive Screaming Eagles Arena promotions. Proceeds raised by the Varsity Club's efforts benefit USI student athletes, who will be competing at the NCAA Division I level for the first time this year.
