A welfare check leads to a drug arrest of a Mt. Vernon couple. Lacole Mosley and Daryl Moman have been arrested for a long list of drug charges as well as six counts of Neglect of a Dependent/Child. On Tuesday, Mount Vernon officers were dispatched to a welfare check of two juveniles at the Mount Vernon Police Department. An Evansville man who said he had no remorse in the killing of another man has been sentenced. Today, Ricky Kiper Jr. was sentenced to 60 years in jail plus 15 more years for being a habitual offender. This all stemming from a murder that happened back in July of 2022 on Maggie Valley Drive. Officials say Kiper knocked on the door of a trailer and asked for 41-year-old James McClernon. When McClernon came to the door, officials say Kiper shot and killed him. He told law enforcement he had shot McClernon because he said he was a sex offender. After some testimony back in January, Kiper Jr. withdrew his not guilty plea. He agreed to do so as long as the state withdrew the firearm enhancement charge, which they did.

Two people are facing burglary charges after police say they stole alcohol from Bally’s Casino in downtown Evansville. Police say 18-year-old Jackson Greenfield and 20-year-old Tanner Lamb were seen on surveillance going into an off-limits area. They say plenty of images of the suspects were caught because their time in front of the cameras included them making obscene gestures. Police say the two went into the kitchen at Cavanaugh’s and then into the restaurant. They say they stole several bottles of alcohol from the bar and then ran out. Officers say the suspects drove off, but their license plate was captured. Police say the two were stopped at Illinois and Bell, and the alcohol bottles were found. They say both Greenfield and Lamb admitted to taking them.
