The Indiana Department of Transportation reports that SR68 and SR65 is scheduled to be closed in the town of Cynthiana starting this coming Monday, March 20th. They say the project should be completed by June of this year. Town streets should not be affected and will be available for emergency responders.

 

Mt. Vernon High School is inviting the community to see the school’s performance of Cinderella the musical tonight and this weekend. There will be four shows. The first performance is this evening at 7:00 PM. Cinderella will also be performed on Friday at 7:00 PM, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM and Saturday evening at 7:00 PM. The school also says there is a special event, “Cookies with Cinderella” on Saturday at noon.

 

Tomorrow is the last day that the Posey County Auditor’s Office will be accepting resumes for the position of part-time deputy Auditor. This position will work Monday through Friday approximately 30 hours a week. Duties will include basic clerical work, including greeting customers, answering phones, and assisting other deputies. They are looking for a candidate that is detail orientated and can work well with others. Please submit all resumes via mail or in person to The Posey County Auditor’s Office by tomorrow. The office is located at 126 E Third Street Room 220 in Mt. Vernon.

 

Still a few weeks left to get those taxes finished. Just a reminder that the Posey County Council on Aging is offering free tax services through the Center for those that are 60 years and older with an income of $57,000 or less. This is being offered through April 7th. You can call or stop by the office to make your appointment. Posey County Council on Aging is located at 618 W. Eighth Street in Mt. Vernon.

 

CenterPoint Energy is encouraging customers who may be on the verge of disconnection to make payment arrangements. With the winter heating season coming to an end, CenterPoint Energy sent out a note on Wednesday to remind customers that Indiana’s winter regulatory moratorium, which temporarily suspends disconnections of customers who meet low-income guidelines and have received federal and state utility heating assistance, is also expiring. Customers who have received a disconnect notice are urged to call CenterPoint to make payment arrangements and avoid possible disconnection.

 

A legal recreational marijuana dispensary is in the works for the Evansville area. Chicago-based Terrabis is planning a retail location in Grayville, Illinois. It will be on Koehler Road near the I-64 Grayville Exit, which is about 45 minutes from Evansville. Recreational cannabis is legal in Illinois. Terrabis also operates five dispensaries in Missouri. The company says the Grayville facility will open this spring and employ 30-to-40 workers. Its products will be available to adults only ages 21 and older. Terrabis touts itself as one of the Midwest's leading retailers of medical and recreational cannabis. The Grayville location will offer only recreational items.

 

Today, March Madness is underway in full force with the 1st round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Illinois Fighting Illini were given the #9 seed in the West Region and will have to play #8 seed Arkansas today at 3:30 PM. Purdue is a #1 seed in the East Region and will play on tomorrow night at 5:50 PM against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Indiana Hoosiers are a #4 seed in the Midwest Region and will battle #13 seed Kent State tomorrow evening at 8:55 PM. You will be able to hear that game on 106.7 FM WMVI. The Kentucky Wildcats was awarded the #6 seed in the East Region and their first game will be tomorrow night at 6:10 PM against #11 Providence.

 

Sports:

- The Indiana Pacers (31-38) play at the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at 7:00 PM.
