Earlier this week we reported on the several national awards that Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari brought home this year. Now, Holiday World has launched something new for the 2023 season. They will offer free Pre-K Season Passes for four and five-year-old children. Children must be four or five years old when their Season Pass is processed for the season. Age-confirming documents, such as a birth certificate or green card, will be required when getting the season passes. Right now, Splashin’ Safari is open on weekends through September 18. Holiday World will remain open through October 30th. Happy Halloween Weekends begin on September 24th.
Posey County 911 Dispatch is hiring candidates for Full-Time and Part-Time 911 Dispatch Operators. Applicants must have a high school diploma. Candidates must be able to type 40 words per minute, handle many tasks, and have excellent communication skills. Experience in public safety is preferred but not required. You must be able to pass a Background Check as well. Applications can be obtained at the Dispatch Office which is located at 305 Mill Street in Mt. Vernon. For those interested, the applications can be picked up Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. All applications/resumes are due back to Dispatch or e-mailed to 911Dispatch@poseycountyin.gov by Friday September 23rd.
Coming up this weekend in New Harmony is one of Indiana’s biggest art festivals, Kunstfest. It takes place this Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can expect plenty of shopping options including hand crafted and unique vendor booths, German food booths, local food trucks, live music, beer garden, and a mimosa bar on Sunday. Kunstfest is made possible by the New Harmony Business Association and the title sponsor of the festival this year is Heritage Federal Credit Union.
Family Matters of Posey County Indiana is seeking a new Executive Director. Requirements for the position includes a bachelor’s degree with a preference given to degrees in human services, administration, or social work. They will also consider 3-5 years of previous non-profit experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. The cover letter, resume, and three professional references are due by Friday, September 23rd. Heads up for North Posey Football fans. Before tomorrow night’s game at home against Heritage Hills, there will be a Vikings Tailgate Party. The tailgate will be in the old practice football field, behind the baseball field, and next to the tennis courts. The entire public is invited to the tailgate, which will get underway at 5:00 PM. There will be hamburgers, German Bologna, chips, and water with donation. You are encouraged to bring your favorite sides, chairs, and games to play. Kickoff for the game between North Posey and Heritage Hills is set for 7:00 PM tomorrow night. Both teams are 3-1 on the season.
Mt. Vernon running back Kortez Stewart won the News 25 Home Team Friday MVP award for week 4. The Wildcats junior racked up 169 rushing yards and three total touchdowns in Friday’s shutout win (48-0) on the road at Jeffersonville. Mt. Vernon Football is 3-1 on the year and they travel to Forest Park tomorrow night at 6:30 PM.

- Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer heads to Pike Central at 6:00 PM.
- North Posey Volleyball travels to South Spencer. JV match is a 5:30 PM and the Varsity will be around 7:00 PM.
- North Posey Girls Soccer is on the road at Southridge at 5:30 PM.
- North Posey Boys Tennis plays host to Forest Park at 4:30 PM.
