North Posey High School had an eLearning Day today. The High School has been without air conditioning due to a technical issue. The technician thought he was going to be able to get the system back online yesterday, but realized around lunch time on Monday that the system board was nonoperational. The part has been ordered. All other schools were in session today. Picture day for North Posey High School has been moved to September 22nd.

 

Bull Island Revisited is coming to the American Legion in Mt. Vernon this Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. At 10:00 AM there will be guest speakers and stories. Then at 11:00 AM there will be acoustic guitar music.

Also coming up soon is the Mt. Vernon River Days on September 9th and 10th. On Saturday September 10th at the River Days, there will be a Cornhole Tournament along the riverfront. Sign-ups at 12:00 PM and the tournament starts at 1:00 PM. Cost per-team is 30 dollars.

 

The next court appearance for EVSC board member and bar owner, Amy Word, has been moved up from late next month to this week. Word is accused of maintaining a common nuisance involving controlled substances, which is a felony. She was arrested in July in connection to a series of drug arrests in the vicinity of her Lamasco Bar and Grill on West Franklin Street. Word will appear before Judge Wayne Trockman for a review hearing tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM.

 

Mt. Vernon Football’s Nicot Burnett is up for the Courier and Press Player of the Week Award. The Junior Quarterback accounted for four total touchdowns and passed for 184 yards in the Wildcats 56-30 win against South Spencer on Friday. Voting takes place at courierpress.com.

Kortez Stewart is also up for Home Team Friday MVP with News 25. Stewart rushed for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns on Friday night for the Wildcats. Voting for that award takes place at tristatehomepage.com. 

 

Local Sports Tonight: 

- Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis plays at Central at 4:30 PM.

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball travels to Boonville with the JV match at 6:00 PM and the Varsity match will follow around 7:30 PM. 

- North Posey Boys Tennis welcomes Gibson Southern at 4:30 PM.

- North Posey Boys Soccer plays host to Reitz at 5:30 PM.

- USI and UE Volleyball square off against each other tonight at Meeks Family Fieldhouse on UE's campus at 6:00 PM. 

- Evansville Otters start their final road trip of the season at the Washington Wild Things at 6:05 PM. Evansville is 50-39 and they have a 2.5 game lead for a playoff spot with 6 games left in the season.
