The deadline to file municipal elections in Indiana has passed. Here are the filings for Posey County. Running for Mt. Vernon Mayor includes Republican Steve Loehr and Democrat Timothy Dunston. Up for Mt. Vernon City Council includes David Dodd (Republican – District 1), Dana Baldwin (Republican – District 2), Amy Hoehn (Republican – District 3), and Jullian Weihrauch-Brothers (Republican – At-Large). Switching to Mt. Vernon Clerk/Treasurer, that includes Cristi Sitzman (Democrat). Running for Poseyville Town Council is Justin Rutledge (Republican – At-Large) and Ron Fallowfield (Democrat – At-Large). Finally, for Poseyville Clerk/Treasurer, that is Christy Foster (Republican).

 

North Posey Football posted on Facebook that next Wednesday, February 15th there will be an informational meeting held in the high school auditorium at 6:00 PM for next year. All 8th-11th graders who are interested in playing next season and their parents/family are invited. Discussion topics will include off-season program and expectations, summer schedule, and the upcoming fundraiser auction.

 

A state grant was secured to help fight food insecurity and obesity thanks to a professor with the University of Evansville. According to a release the grant application was submitted back in November. They say that grant was submitted on behalf of the Evansville non-profit Young and Established. Y&E works to better the community primarily through the inspiration and motivation of the youth. Officials say the grant valued at $450,000 will provide two years’ worth of funding for work related to food insecurity and obesity. With the funding, the goal is to accomplish three programs including a backpack and food pantry program, community garden and farmer’s market, and cooking classes for children who are part of the Y&E mentorship program. According to a release, the University of Evansville’s Institute for Public Health was included in this grant as a technical advisor. The grant disbursement begins this summer.

 

Country rock group Alabama has announced a new date on the 2023 tour “Roll on North America.” The new date will be in Evansville at the Ford Center on March 30th, 2023. The show will feature guest Dailey & Vincent. Ticket pre-sale starts this Thursday February 9th, 2023 (Code: ROLLON). All tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, February 10th, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Ticketmaster.

- Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball (8-10) travels to Memorial at 7:00 PM. Catch the game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Cooke and Allen Buck will have the call. 

- From Men's College Basketball tonight...#18 IU (16-7) welcomes #24 Rutgers at 5:30 PM. Ball State (16-7) heads to Central Michigan at 6:00 PM. Louisville (3-20) is at Pittsburgh at 6:00 PM. Murray State (13-11) plays host to Drake at 7:00 PM. Butler (11-13) is home against St. John's at 7:30 PM. Then at 8:00 PM, UK (16-7) takes on Arkansas at home.
