The Mt. Vernon Police Department is taking applications for Lateral Police Officer. The Mount Vernon Common Council approved a Lateral Police Officer hiring bonus of $10,000. This bonus is paid in $5,000 increments at the end of year 1 and at the end of year 3 (in addition to the lateral pay of $50,656). If you are a full time, Indiana Tier I Certified Officer from a state, county, or local municipality, you may be eligible for this bonus. Check out the Mt. If you have no police experience, that’s OK. The department is also accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. The starting pay for officers is $48,656. A $2,000 increase is given at the end of the probationary year. Additional benefits include shift differential of $1,000 and $2,000 for afternoon shift and night shift, respectively, a yearly uniform allowance of $1,000, longevity pay, vacation days, sick days, personal days, life insurance, options for health, vision, and dental insurance as well as enrollment into the Indiana Public Employee's Retirement Fund. Applications for Police Officer are due by February 3rd, 2023.

 

New Harmony Working Men’s Institute posted on Facebook that Johnson United Methodist Church will be providing free homework help to all students at the Working Men’s Institute on Tuesdays throughout this month of January from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

 

Investigators have released new information on a massive warehouse fire that started on North Garvin Street in Evansville. According to a news release sent out Monday, authorities have determined the warehouse fire that started on North Garvin Street was caused by an electrical accident. The news release says the investigation concluded over the weekend, with an out-briefing conducted Monday morning. The ATF's National Response Team reached its conclusion "after an extensive examination of the fire scene during the past week." The fire on North Garvin Street broke out the morning of Saturday, December 31st. Multiple departments had to assist due to the size of the blaze, with work to resolve the situation continuing for days. The Evansville Fire Department, Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office, Evansville Police Department, and the ATF were among the agencies that assisted with the investigation.

 

Another ‘Access to Service Fair’ event will be held this week. That means people will be able to speak one-on-one with CenterPoint Energy and Evansville Water and Sewer Utility representatives about their accounts. Officials from local assistance agencies and Township Trustees Offices will also be there. That event will take place Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CK Newsome Center. Another ‘Access to Service Fair’ is also planned for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

 

Easterseals Rehabilitation Center revealed the estimated amount of how much money was raised from the “Ritzy’s Fantasy of Lights” event. According to a press release, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, the annual light show raised over $200,000. In the 29 years of the event, net proceeds have reached more than 4.3 million dollars for essential therapy sessions and inclusive early education at Easterseals. Approximately 12,259 vehicles, including horse drawn carriages, visited this year’s light show display. This year’s total also included an impressive $26,631 in extra donations from event visitors. Local volunteers will start dismantling and removing the lights from Evansville’s Garvin Park this upcoming weekend. The 30th annual “Ritzy’s Fantasy of Lights” event is already being planned for this coming November. More information on the event can be found on their website.

- In Men's College Basketball tonight...UK (10-5) hosts South Carolina at 6:00 PM. Illinois (10-5) heads to Nebraska at 8:00 PM. Butler (10-7) is at St. John's at 5:30 PM. Ball State (11-4) pays a visit to Ohio at 6:00 PM. Notre Dame (8-8) is home against Georgia Tech at 6:00 PM. Murray State (9-7) journeys to Northern Iowa at 7:00 PM.
