The Women’s Fund of Posey County is now accepting applications for projects or programs supporting Posey County. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply by completing a grant application no later than February 13th. Applications will be considered from nonprofit organizations that are deemed tax-exempt. The project or program must provide support in one of the following areas: Community Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services, or Youth Development. The application process is being conducted online via the foundation’s website at www.poseycountyfc.org/womens-fund-grants-program.  

 

Indiana Representative Jim Banks says he’s running for a soon to be open United States Senate for Indiana. Banks made the announcement this morning on Twitter. This comes as Senator Mike Braun is starting his campaign for Indiana Governor in 2024. Right now, Banks represents District 3 in Indiana.

 

The coroner was called to the scene of an accident this morning involving an EVSC school bus hitting a person. The accident happened at Mary Street and Louisiana Street in Evansville. Evansville Police say there were no kids on the bus. The Vanderburgh County coroner, Evansville Police and EVSC officials are all on scene. Evansville Police are using a drone to reconstruct the accident that involved a man with a bicycle. The accident remains under investigation. The school bus driver was not hurt, but she was taken to the hospital for a blood draw. This is standard procedure in the event of an accident.

 

An Evansville non-profit is celebrating two decades of service, and they want the community to join them in their festivities. Boom Squad kicked off their first practice for the drumline in 2003. Boom Squad has since grown to become an award winning youth development organization. To celebrate their accomplishments, organizers set a goal to get 1,000 people to donate $20. Donations can be made now through January 23rd, on their website or in person at their office on South Evans Avenue. 

 

Tickets went on sale this morning for an annual boxing event in Evansville. Starting at 10:00 AM this morning, tickets were made available for the annual "Guns & Hoses" event. Reserved seating is available on all levels, with floor seats starting at $30, lower bowl at $25, and upper bowl at $15. Kids 12 and under can also get upper bowl seats for $5. The fan favorite pits local firefighters against police officers in boxing matches at Ford Center. This year, the event itself will take place on April 16th. Money raised from the event benefits 911 Gives Hope and local charities.

- Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball (1-16) is at home against Princeton at 7:00 PM. 

- North Posey Girls Basketball (7-7) welcomes Princeton at 7:00 PM. 

- In Mens College Basketball tonight, the University of Evansville Purple Aces (4-15, 0-8) head over to Carbondale to battle the SIU Salukis (14-5, 6-2) at 7:00 PM. 

- Other Mens College Basketball games this evening include...Notre Dame (9-9) at home against Florida State at 6:00 PM. Butler (11-8) plays host to Creighton at 6:00 PM. Ball State (12-5) is home against Western Michigan at 6:00 PM. Later on tonight at 8:00 PM, Murray State (10-8) is on the road to play Belmont. Also at 8:00 PM tonight, Kentucky (11-6) takes on Georgia at home.
