Coming up this Sunday at the Western Hills Country Club in Mt. Vernon is the 11th Annual Jack Lawson Memorial Elks Veterans Golf Scramble. Tee Time is set for 9:00 AM. Everyone is welcome whether it’s teams or individuals. The cost for individual players is $50, hole sponsors are $50, event sponsors are $100, and team sponsors are $200. This outing supports the Elks local veteran’s programs throughout the year. You can sign up at the Elks in Mt. Vernon.  

 

The Mt. Vernon Marching Wildcats present their community performance this Thursday evening at the Football Field. The performance gets underway at 7:30 PM.

 

Family Matters of Posey County is accepting applications for the Christmas Assistance Program. Applications are available at Family Matters, all County Trustee’s offices, and many area churches. All completed applications must be returned to the Trustee’s office, or Trinity United Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon by noon tomorrow.

 

Tickets remain for the West Side Nut Club #CureFA exhibition baseball game scheduled for October 22nd at Bosse Field between USI and Kent State University. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at USI Athletics and all Banterra Bank locations in Evansville and Newburgh. Fans also can purchase tickets on-line at curefa.org/USIBaseball. The 2:00 PM exhibition game on Saturday, October 22nd will benefit the fight against Friedreich's Ataxia (FA), which is a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that affects one in 50,000 people in the United States. The game previews the 2023 USI Screaming Eagles, who will be concluding their fall workouts.

 

A new Deaconess Clinic Urgent Care has opened on Evansville’s west side. Officials say the new urgent care is located on West Franklin Street. According to a press release, the new facility is to provide convenient and immediate care options for those living and working on the west side of Evansville. Officials say providers will include physicians, family nurse practitioners and physician assistants. They will be able to treat minor injuries and illnesses such as stitches, school or sport physicals, flu vaccines, Covid-19 vaccines, TB test and readings, and administer breathing treatments. The clinic will also include on-site lab and x-ray services. According to a release, the new facility will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. everyday. Walk-ins are welcome, or appointments can be scheduled online.

 

Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Gardens is hosting its annual Boo At The Zoo event again this month. This includes live entertainment, decorations, trick or treating, a magic show and more. The event will only happen on Friday and Saturday nights, starting October 21st through October 30th. You can purchase your tickets online at meskerparkzoo.com.

 

Holiday World officials announced their drone show will take to the skies over ‘Happy Halloween Weekends’. That’s set to happen on October 22nd and October 29th. Officials say there are about 300 drones in the show, all Halloween themed. They also say ‘Halloween in the Sky’ will end with a special announcement for the 2023 season.

 

The final week of the High School Football regular season is this Friday. Coming up this evening on 106.7 WMVI, it’s another edition of the Mt. Vernon Football Coaches Show live from United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon. The show was pushed to tonight, because of yesterday being Columbus Day. Tune in from 5:30 PM until 6:00 PM as the voices of the Wildcats Chris Cooke and Allen Back talk with Coach Messmer. Mt. Vernon Football is coming off a loss last week at North Posey and get set for the regular season finale at home on Friday against Washington. Mt. Vernon Football is 4-4 on the year.

 

Local Sports Tonight:

- University of Evansville Men's Soccer play at Louisville at 6:00 PM. The Purple Aces are 4-2-4 on the season.
