The Indiana Department of Transportation reports that SR68 and SR65 is scheduled to be closed in the town of Cynthiana starting this coming Monday, March 20th. They say the project should be completed by June of this year. Town streets should not be affected and will be available for emergency responders.

 

Mt. Vernon High School is inviting the community to see the school’s performance of Cinderella the musical this week and weekend. There will be four shows. The first performance is this Thursday at 7:00 PM. Cinderella will also be performed on Friday at 7:00 PM, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM and Saturday evening at 7:00 PM. The school also says there is a special event, “Cookies with Cinderella” on Saturday at noon.

 

The University of Evansville Athletics Department announced three winners for the 2023 Liberty Federal Credit Union Ace Educators of the Year. One of the winners was Mark Kirkman, who is a high school government teacher at North Posey High School. The other two winners were Mindy Matthews, a kindergarten teacher at McCutchanville Elementary and Katie Ritter, an EVSC school support specialist. The University of Evansville thanked these three individuals for going above and beyond as valued educators in the community.

 

The ground and infrastructure work is underway for the new Sunset Skatepark on Evansville's riverfront. During today’s Parks Board meeting, bids will be opened for Phase 2 of the project's construction. The skatepark, located between Mickey's Kingdom and the EWSU Pump Station Project, will be the first and only concrete skatepark in the city. It will also be the largest in the state of Indiana at nearly 27,000 square feet. The city released finalized designs for the park back in May of 2022. They broke ground on the project back in December and officials say the park is slated to open sometime in 2023.

 

The Evansville Fire Department is inviting the community to an open house event in April. The department says it's planning to hold the community open house event from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 1st. The first hour of the event will be a special "sensory hour," in partnership with Autism Evansville. The event will include refreshments, family games, face painting, safety tips, live demonstrations, and much more. It's all happening at EFD Station 16 at 2801 Washington Ave. and is completely free to the public.

 

Tonight, there are two more play-in games for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and then the Field of 64 will be set. Tomorrow and Friday are when the full-on Madness begins. Purdue is a #1 seed in the East Region and will play on Friday at 5:50 PM against the winner of Texas Southern and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Indiana Hoosiers are a #4 seed in the Midwest Region and will battle #13 seed Kent State on Friday at 8:55 PM. You will be able to hear that game on 106.7 FM WMVI. The Kentucky Wildcats was awarded the #6 seed in the East Region and their first game will be on Friday at 6:10 PM against #11 Providence. The Illinois Fighting Illini were given the #9 seed in the West Region and will have to play #8 seed Arkansas on Thursday at 3:30 PM.

 

Sports: 

- Evansville Baseball (9-7) plays at Bellarmine at 1:00 PM. 

- USI Baseball (7-9) is home against the Salukis of SIU at 3:00 PM.
