The Mt. Vernon Marching Wildcats present their community performance tomorrow night at the Football Field. The performance gets underway at 7:30 PM.

 

Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club and McKim’s IGA are teaming up for the youth of Mt. Vernon with a Rib Fest this Friday at 2:00 PM. A full slab of ribs are 18 dollars. You can contact a Kiwanis member for pre-sales and pick it up at the IGA in Mt. Vernon on Friday. You are to make the checks payable to McKim’s IGA.

 

A major increase to pay and benefits for deputy sheriffs in Vanderburgh County was approved yesterday. A news release says that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners unanimously approved a contract on Tuesday that raises salaries for deputies by 30% over the next four years. According to the release, the contract also increases longevity and retention benefits for deputies with the sheriff's office. When comparing salary and benefits to deputy sheriffs in other Indiana counties, the new contract takes Vanderburgh County from near the bottom of the list to near the top. The unofficial kickoff to basketball season at the University of Evansville will take place this Saturday with Meeks Madness on campus at Meeks Family Fieldhouse. Festivities are set to begin at 6:00 PM, with the doors opening at 5:00 PM. The event features the Purple Aces men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the spirit squad. The evening will consist of a dunk contest, scrimmages, autographs, giveaways, and more. Admission is $5 and the first 100 UE students who get tickets from inside the Carson Center Ticket Office will receive free admission. The Meeks Madness event is sponsored by Brackett Heating and Air.

 

Final week of the High School Football regular season is coming up this Friday night. Yesterday, the updated AP Polls were released. In Class 5A Castle is 10th. Class 4A has Reitz 6th, Jasper 13th, and Memorial 14th. Moving on the Class 3A where Gibson Southern is 2nd and Southridge is 10th. Class 2A features Mater Dei 4th, Perry Central 13th, and North Posey 16th. Finishing up in Class 1A where Tecumseh is 7th.

In the final week of the regular season this Friday, 4-4 Mt. Vernon plays host to Washington and 6-2 North Posey is home against Pike Central.

 

Local Sports Tonight:

- There are no local sports this evening at the high school level between Mt. Vernon and North Posey. There is also no local events at the college level betwen UE and USI. 

- Volleyball Sectionals start tomorrow night for North Posey. They play Perry Central tomorrow night at 5:30 PM in the 1st Round of the Class 2A Sectional 48 at Perry Central High School.

- Mt. Vernon Volleyball doesn't play until Saturday at 12:30 PM as they got a bye. Mt. Vernon will take on the winner of Gibson Southern and Memorial. The Wildcats play in the Class 3A Sectional 32 hosted by Gibson Southern High School.
