A state-of-the-art recycling facility is coming to Mount Vernon and is expected to create more than 200 jobs. Avangard Innovative, the largest post-consumer resin producer in the country, will be opening a new plant in a field across from AstraZeneca on Indiana State Road 62. Jenna Richardt who is VP of Economic and Community Development for the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership says it was about a year long process. Richardt also says they have other customers here locally that make this a very attractive place for them to land. The 176-acre site will be the company's first location in Indiana, allowing them to increase service to the Midwest. Officials say this new venture will enrich the economy and bring new opportunities to the Tri-State. Construction is set to begin in 2023, with an opening date in 2024.

Officials with the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (E-REP) and Posey County Economic Development Partnership (PCEDP) are merging organizations. Tara Barney who is the CEO of E-Rep says they have had much success working with Posey County this past year in attracting new business and advancing quality of life projects. Barney continued by saying that they look forward to nurturing that relationship further as they take on the added economic development responsibilities. Officials say over the past year, E-REP helped secure City of Mt. Vernon incentives for redevelopment of the former K-Mart Building, transforming the space for Country Mark. To protect the Mt. Vernon riverfront, they say E-REP secured a $100,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and helped complete the City of Mt. Vernon’s comprehensive plan.
