Nix Companies is putting down deeper roots in Posey County. The company, which is one of the area’s largest employers, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for its future headquarters in Poseyville. Leaders, employees, and community partners gathered along Frontage Road to mark the milestone. Company officials say the new facility reflects continued growth and a long-term commitment to the region. Nix President and CEO Matthew Nix says the project carries special meaning for the company, having the headquarters in Posey County, and they will be moving in during their 125th anniversary. The expansion is also expected to bring new opportunities to the area, with leaders projecting a 20 percent increase in the local workforce. Construction on the new headquarters is now underway.
History is coming to life in New Harmony. Students stepped back in time yesterday during Heritage Artisan Days, a two-day event hosted by the University of Southern Indiana and Historic New Harmony. The event features skilled artisans demonstrating trades from the 19th century, including blacksmithing, weaving, and fur trading, giving visitors a hands-on look at how early residents lived and worked. Organizers say it’s a chance for students to experience history in a way that goes beyond the classroom. If you missed the first day, there’s still time to check it out. Demonstrations continue today from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Drivers in the Tri-State should plan for overnight delays on Interstate 64 early next week. The Illinois Department of Transportation says all eastbound lanes over the Wabash River will close Monday night for a routine bridge inspection and minor maintenance. The closure begins at 7:00 PM on Monday evening near Grayville and the Illinois-Indiana state line and is expected to last through the overnight hours into early Tuesday morning. Westbound traffic will not be affected. A marked detour will be in place to guide drivers around the closure. If weather becomes an issue, the work will be pushed back to Tuesday night. Officials are urging motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone—slowing down, following posted signs, and staying off mobile devices while driving.
