There is another scam that is making its rounds in Posey County. The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says scammers are calling residents and impersonating Chief Deputy Jeremy Fortune. Authorities say the caller claims to represent an unknown U.S. District Court and asks to speak with residents about land they may or may not own, supposedly being used as collateral in a lawsuit. The sheriff’s office is warning residents not to provide any personal or property information and to hang up immediately if they receive the call. Officials emphasize that the Posey County Sheriff’s Office has no ties to any U.S. District Court and does not “litigate” court cases. Anyone who receives a call they believe is part of the scam can contact the Posey County Sheriff’s Office at 812-838-1321.
The Town of Poseyville has announced that Marshal Carter has submitted his resignation as Town Marshal after his 10 years of service to the Town of Poseyville and the community. During his time with the Town, he has worked hard to help keep Poseyville safe and has been there for residents through countless calls, situations, and everyday needs of the community. In a Facebook post, the Town of Poseyville account said that on behalf of the Town Council, Town employees, and the residents of Poseyville, they want to express their sincere gratitude for his years of service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
After years of planning, NewLife Rescue & Adoptions is ready to open its new facility in Mount Vernon, and the community is invited to celebrate. A ribbon cutting is set for tomorrow at noon, kicking off a two-day Grand Opening Adoption Fair from noon to 5:00 PM each day at 6500 Leonard Road N. Visitors can tour the new building, meet adoptable animals and enjoy lunch from food trucks. And thanks to the ASPCA, all dog adoptions during the event will have their adoption fees sponsored for families with an approved application. So, it could be a chance to celebrate NewLife’s new home—and maybe take home a new best friend.
Starting today, thousands of street rodders are expected to pack the Vanderburgh County Fairgrounds throughout weekend for the 51st annual Frog Follies. Organizers say more than 600 vendor booths will feature everything from rusty and new auto parts to vintage cars for sale. The Frog Follies wrap up on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Admission is 10 dollars, while children under 12 get in free. Tickets will be available at the gate.
Indiana’s public colleges and universities are freezing tuition for a second straight year. Governor Mike Braun requested the freeze for in-state undergraduate students for the 2025-2026 school year. The freeze on tuition and mandatory fees will continue into the 2026-2027 academic year. Braun says the move is aimed at putting students and their families first, while encouraging colleges and universities to find efficiencies, eliminate redundancies, and streamline services without sacrificing the quality of education. The freeze affects all 15 of Indiana’s public colleges and universities, including the University of Southern Indiana, Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, Indiana State University, Indiana University, and Ball State University. According to the governor’s office, it’s the first time every public higher education institution in Indiana has kept tuition and mandatory fees flat for two consecutive years.
Tonight is week two of the high school football season and the North Posey Vikings have their home opener vs Tecumseh at 7:00 PM. North Posey is 1-0 after their 34-21 win at Southridge in week one and Tecumseh is also 1-0 after shutting out Princeton at home, 37-0 last week. Mt. Vernon Football also has their home opener tonight vs Boonville at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats are 0-1 after a 16-15 loss at Forest Park last Friday night and the Pioneers are 1-0 after taking care of Bosse at home in week one, 45-0. Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Boys Soccer won at home vs South Spencer, 7-1. It was the Vikings’ first win of the season as they improved to 1-2.
North Posey Boys Tennis continued their strong week as they picked up another win at Harrison, 4-1. The Vikings are now 4-3 overall.
In Major League Baseball from Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals ended a 5-game losing streak in the finale of their 3-game series at home vs the Baltimore Orioles with a 7-5 win. Blaze Jordan clobbered a 3-run home run and Ramon Urias cracked a 2-run home run. It was the third home run of the season for both Jordan and Urias. The Cardinals are 67-68 and start a 3-game series at home vs the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at 7:15 PM.
Both the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds had yesterday off and start a 3-game series against each other this afternoon in Chicago at 1:20 PM. The Cubs are 76-58 and the Reds are 63-71 overall.
The Chicago White Sox also had the day off on Thursday. They are in Minnesota for a 3-game set vs the Twins this evening at 7:10 PM. The White Sox are 70-63 on the season.
