Christmas on Main Street in Mt. Vernon is tonight. The night starts with the lighted parade at 7:00 PM. The other event for this evening includes the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the mayors house at 7:50 PM. Saturday’s events include the Kids Christmas Party from 12:00-4:00 PM with a cookies and milk station sponsored by McKims IGA, Visits with Santa, gifts for ages up to 10 years old and writing letters to Santa himself. Another part of Christmas on Main Street is the Jeep Jamboree along the riverfront from 2:00-6:00 PM as well as food trucks along the riverfront from 3:00-7:00 PM. Remember while visiting the Christmas on Main Street event to support the local businesses in downtown Mount Vernon.
United Way of Posey County posted on Facebook that their Half Pot Raffle is over 1,100 dollars and time is running out to get your tickets. The drawing will be on December 31st. If interested in a ticket, you can visit the United Way Office at 215 South Kimball Street, contact the office at 812-838-3637, or email unitedwayposey@gmail.com. You can also visit the Jeep Jamboree event this Saturday at the Mt. Vernon Riverfront from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM and purchase tickets.
Coming up in Poseyville tomorrow is the Candy Cane Market taking place from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at the North Elementary Gymnasium at 63 West Fletchall Avenue. Admission for the market will be $3 for adults and kids entry is free. Enjoy over 45 vendors in the gymnasium plus hot coco, food trucks, reindeer raffle and face painting.
There's a free event coming up for LEGO lovers in Evansville. The University of Southern Indiana will be hosting the FIRST LEGO League Semi-State Challenge on Sunday, Dec. 10. Over 45 Indiana teams will be participating in the challenger, which is sponsored by he University of Southern Indiana, the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and AstraZeneca. The event will kick off with a parade of teams at 8:30 a.m., and at 10 a.m., the Robot Game will begin, where teams will demonstrate months of hard work in designing and coding their LEGO robots. Volunteers from local businesses, industries and academia will be on hand to serve as judges, STEM exhibitors and Robot Game officials. FIRST LEGO League is an international robotics program that challenges kids ages 9 to 14 to think critically, solve problems and develop real-world solutions using robotics and technology. This year's theme is “Masterpiece,” which encourages teams to imagine and innovate new ways to create and communicate art across the globe. Next Saturday at the Poseyville community center will be the Poseyville Kiwanis Club, Breakfast with Santa event. This will be taking place from 8:00-11:00 AM at 60 North Church Street. Pre-sale prices are $7.00 for kids 4 to 9 years old and $10 for ages 10 and up. In person prices will be two dollars higher the day of the event. Sports from last night…in local high school action…North Posey Girls Basketball lost against Washington 57-33. North Posey falls to 3-4 on the year and 2-3 in the PAC.
Coming up tonight in Boys High School Basketball…North Posey travels to Heritage Hills. The varsity game is at 7:00 PM. The Vikings are 1-0 and the Patriots are 3-0.
The Mt. Vernon Wildcats Boys Basketball team is also on the road this evening as they play at Central. The Varsity game will tip at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats are off to a 3-0 start and the Bears are 1-1.
From the NBA last night, the Indiana Pacers advanced to the in-season tournament championship game as they beat the Milwaukee Bucks 128-119. The Pacers are now 12-8 on the year. Tyrese Haliburton had 27 points and 15 assists for Indiana and Myles Turner added 26 points and 10 rebounds. The Pacers will play in the in-season tournament championship game Saturday evening at 7:30 PM against the Los Angeles Lakers in Las Vegas.
