The city of Mt. Vernon will be having their Firework show tomorrow night along the Mt. Vernon riverfront. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy the beautiful display brought to you by the Mt. Vernon Lions Club. The Firework display will start around 9:00 PM tomorrow. There will be food trucks at 5:00 PM and music will start at 7:00 PM. Brittlebank Pool in Mt. Vernon has a couple of 4th of July promotions. Tomorrow, it is dollar day. They will be open from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Then on Tuesday the 4th of July, if you wear patriotic clothing you will get in for a dollar. They will have hot dogs, bomb pops, ice cream, and corn hole.

 

Visit New Harmony posted on Facebook for the community to join them on Tuesday, July 4th for a classic Independence Day celebration. They will have the reading of the Declaration of Independence, recognition of veterans, music by the community choir, recognition of the volunteer of the year, keynote speech by Kim Nightengale, golf cart parade through town, and a cookout at Maclure Park hosted by the Kiwanis to raise funds to further their great work. St. Wendel Catholic Church is looking for volunteers to come to the St Wendel Campus tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM to clean up the debris from trees as a result of last night’s storm. Brink a rake and chain saw if you have one. If you have an ATV with a bed that would be helpful as well. The church wants to thank the volunteers who started the clean up this morning.

 

The Mt. Vernon Fire Department posted a message that they would like to welcome Charlie Bradford to their staff. He is their newest full time Firefighter/EMT. Charlie has been with the Fire Department for 18 years as a volunteer, but now takes on the new journey of full-time firefighter.

 

The Posey County Fair is having a talent show this year on Thursday, July 20th at 6:00 PM. The registration deadline is July 10th. It is 10 dollars per-participant, and all participants must be Indiana residents. The majority of a group must be Posey County residents. There is a registration form online at poseycountyfair.com.

 

Anyone looking to escape the heat in Evansville can cool off in the lobby of the CK Newsome Center. City officials say the CK Newsome Center's lobby has been activated as a temporary cooling shelter for Friday. The lobby will be available for use until 5 p.m., offering a safe indoor space for anyone trying to get out of the heat.

 

Sports

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (33-47) begin a 3-game weekend series at home with the New York Yankees tonight at 7:15 PM. The Redbirds are hoping to avoid a 3rd-straight loss. You can hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI.    

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (43-38) start a 3-game series at home against the San Diego Padres at 4:10 PM. The Reds are going after their 3rd-straight win.  

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (36-47) are still out west as they get a new series underway at the Oakland Athletics at 8:40 PM.
