North Posey Baseball (18-11) won their second Sectional game last night as they defeated Tell City, 9-1. The Vikings move on to the championship game on Monday at 12:00 PM. They will play Perry Central, who upset #1 Forest Park last night 3-1. You will be able to hear the game Monday on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Thursday morning, the Posey County Drug Task Force’s “Operation Last Dance” culminated with 22 suspects charged with committing drug dealing and other drug-related offenses. Multiple law enforcement agencies gathered at the Posey County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning hours to assist the Posey County Drug Task Force in executing multiple arrest warrants and search warrants. “Operation Last Dance,” an 11-month undercover drug operation that began in June 2022, was named in recognition of Posey County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator and Drug Task Force Supervisor Kenneth Rose, who plans to retire later this year after serving the past 45 years in various law enforcement roles. The Drug Task Force utilized numerous undercover informants to make controlled purchases of illegal narcotics in and around Posey County. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Black River Welcome Center in Posey County is getting a total makeover. The welcome center in New Harmony is along I-64 east near the Illinois-Indiana state line. Because of the renovations, the welcome center will be closed starting in June. They’re hoping to have it reopen in 2025. It will be completely demolished and reconstructed to look like a log cabin resembling President Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home. There will also be an exhibit on President Lincoln. INDOT says there will be expanded parking, new restroom facilities for truck drivers, a playground, and a dog park.

 

This week is the 49th annual EMS Week. Posey County EMS has been providing highlights throughout the week. Yesterday, they announced that they are proud to share further details about their Community Paramedic Program: Pro Act. Back in February, they announced the news of being awarded a grant for a program that only one other service offers in the Tri-State. EMS has always been the bridge connecting public safety, public health, and health care. With the Pro Act program, they will be able to extend additional services to the community. Some of those services include, Community Outreach Classes for First Aid, CPR, and Stop the Bleed, Substance Abuse Mitigation, Mental Illness Mitigation, and Elderly Management Programs.

 

Locally owned McDonald’s restaurants will celebrate Memorial Day by offering free breakfast to military service members this Monday morning. Officials say retired, or active-duty military service members can enjoy a free breakfast combo of choice from 6:00 AM until 10:30 AM. The offer is valid at any participating area McDonald’s restaurants in Mt. Vernon and Evansville. Local owners say Memorial Day is a time to celebrate and remember the sacrifices made by the great men and women in our military, and they hope local heroes know how much they appreciate all they’ve done for everyone in the community.

 

Dispatchers say Evansville Police are investigating a report of a man with a gun at the Walmart on Burkhardt. They say the call came in around 8:30 PM Thursday. Police say it was reported that a man with a gun was chasing a woman through the store. Dispatchers say no shots were fired. Police say when they arrived, the woman had been secured in an office by employees. They say they systematically cleared the store, and no gunman was found. The store reopened around 9:00 PM. Police say they are reviewing surveillance.

 

Sports:

Evansville Baseball (35-22) won last night against Murray State, 3-2 in the MVC Tournament. UE got all 3 runs in the 7th inning. The Aces, who are the #4 seed, are 2-0 in the tournament. It is a double elimination format. They will play #1 seed Indiana State today at 1:30 PM Central Time. The winner of the game moves on to the championship game.

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (23-29) picked up a 2-1 win at the Cincinnati Reds (21-29) yesterday to earn a split in the 4-game series.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (22-27) could not complete a 3-game sweep of the New York Mets at home as they got thumped, 10-1.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (21-31) got tripped up in Detroit by the Tigers, 7-2.
