The North Posey Vikings Football team will host the Southmont Mounties for the Class 2A South Semi-State tomorrow at 4:00 PM at Joe Gengelbach Field. Tickets are $12.00 each (Season Passes cannot be used at IHSAA Tournament Events). Tickets may be purchased at the gate with cash on Saturday. Gates will open at 2:00 PM CST. North Posey is 12-1 and Southmont is 8-5. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast on Saturday on 98.9 FM WPIW, 106.7 FM WMVI, and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

In the monthly Posey County FOP meeting, nominations were made for the 2024 executive board. Appointed for next year were Brandon Deig as President, Isaac Fueling as Vice President, Wes Kuykendall as secretary, Dustin Seitz at treasurer, Dan Montgomery, Korben Sellers and Colten Givens as Trustees and Tyler Ritzert as Sergeant at Arms.

 

The Posey County Community Foundation has awarded over $164,000 in grants to 35 local nonprofit organizations through its 2023 Community Good Grants program. This year’s grants provide flexible funding for a variety of charitable projects and organizations serving Posey County. Funding for the program is provided by donors and organizations establishing and donating to the community good.

 

Coming up on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at the Mount Vernon Fire Department, there will be a car seat safety check. If you’re not sure if your child is in the right seat or if it is properly installed, come by the fire department at 311 College Avenue and let the certified technicians inspect them. Paramedic Amy Woodley, County Health Nurse Kelli Goedde and School Liaison Nurse Kayla Raber will be on site for the free checks. Appointments are Preferred and can be scheduled by calling 812-781-0300.

 

The City of Evansville kicked off the holiday season Thursday night with a Christmas tree lighting. Dozens of people showed up to see the tree, which was cut down in Posey County and brought to Evansville about two weeks ago. It’s a 32-foot-tall Norway Spruce and is illuminated with around 25,000 lights.

 

Pickleball at Burdette Park is now in full swing. Thursday morning, leaders cut the ribbon on the new courts. Once that was done, players started enjoying the courts immediately. Officials say the project replaced the existing four tennis courts with six pickleball courts and two tennis courts. Officials say they still need to apply an acrylic topcoat on the courts. They plan to do that in the spring.

 

Sports from last night saw USI Women’s Basketball beat Northern Illinois University, 66-60. The Lady Eagles improve to 3-0. Vanessa Shafford had 21 points and 14 rebounds for USI.

 

Coming up tonight in local high school sports…Mt. Vernon Girls Basketball travels to North Posey. The varsity game will tipoff at 7:30 PM. Mt. Vernon is 0-3 and North Posey is 0-1. Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast on 106.7 FM WMVI, 98.9 FM WPIW, and online at poseycountyradio.com.
