Authorities are continuing the search for a person missing in the Ohio River near Mount Vernon after two others were rescued Saturday morning. Black Township Fire and Rescue crews were called to the river shortly after 9:00 AM Saturday after receiving reports that two people had been swept downstream on logs. The two were rescued and brought aboard emergency boats. They told first responders a third person was still in the water after their vessel capsized. Crews spent the day searching the river using boats and drones. Water operations were suspended Saturday night because darkness limited visibility and mobility. The search resumed around 7:00 AM on Sunday. Black Township Fire and Rescue officials say the boat involved in the incident was recovered Sunday morning. Crews are continuing surface-water searches with boats and drones, but officials say high water levels and significant debris are making the operation more difficult. The fire department says the mission has now transitioned from a rescue operation to a recovery effort. Emergency crews are working near the Mount Vernon Boat Club boat ramp off Canal Street. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area while the search continues.
Vanderburgh County deputies say an 18-year-old man was arrested for sexual battery following an incident at student housing at the University of Southern Indiana. Deputies say they were called to student housing on Rochelle Lane Saturday morning to take a report. According to the sheriff’s office, the victim told deputies they had invited Henry Fink over Friday night. The two had reportedly been friends on Snapchat for several months. Deputies say the victim told them Fink was sitting next to them when he allegedly grabbed them inappropriately. The victim told deputies they asked Fink to stop, but that he continued. Deputies say the victim’s roommate also reported that Fink grabbed her and continued to do so when she tried to move away. Investigators say they located Fink at his campus residence and confronted him. According to deputies, Fink acknowledged that he had been at the victim’s apartment Friday night, but said he left because the victim was throwing up. Fink was arrested and charged with sexual battery. He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
