Coming up tomorrow, postseason play gets underway for high school boys basketball with the first round of Sectionals. The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will take on the Gibson Southern Titans tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in the Class 3A Sectional 32 at Boonville High School. The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 13-11 record. They lost to Gibson Southern during the regular season on December 16th, 48-42. You will be able to hear tomorrow night’s game on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

Coming up tonight with Mt. Vernon Basketball, it’s the Coaches Show at 6:00 PM on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Cooke will host the show with Wildcats Head Coach, Joe Newcomb. They will broadcast live at United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon from 6:00 PM until 6:30 PM.

 

The North Posey Vikings will also be in action tomorrow night in the Class 2A Sectional 48 as they play South Spencer at 7:00 PM in the first round. Forest Park is the host of the Sectional, but the games are at Huntingburg Memorial Gym where Southridge plays. The Vikings went 16-5 during the regular season and beat South Spencer, 68-39 back on January 22nd. Tomorrow night’s game will be on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com.

 

The Mt. Vernon Police Department is reminding the community that golf cart registrations are due by this Friday, March 1st. The Police Department says they have the registration stickers in at the Police Department. If you have previously been registered and have completed the inspection, you only need to register for the next year. The 30 dollars registration fee can be paid at the Police Department during business days between 8:00-11:45 AM and 1:00-4:00 PM. Payments must be made in cash or check.

 

Harmonie State Park has posted on Facebook that they are hiring. They are looking for seasonal workers for March through October/November. Positions include gate attendants, laborers, security, and housekeeping. If interested and looking for more information, you should call the park office at 812-682-4821…or go online to workforindiana.in.gov and use the keyword “Harmonie.”

 

Local sports from Sunday saw the Evansville Purple Aces Men’s Basketball team lose at home against the Southern Illinois Salukis, 65-53. Evansville has now dropped 5-straight games and sit at 15-14 overall and 6-12 in the MVC. In yesterday’s loss, Ben Humrichous had 11 points and Antonio Thomas scored 10 points. The Aces will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday against Indiana State at 7:00 PM.

 

#3 Purdue went to Michigan and escaped with an 84-76 victory. Zach Edey had an impressive double-double with 35 points and 15 rebounds. The Boilermakers are 25-3 on the year and 14-3 in the Big 10.

 

From the NBA yesterday, the Indiana Pacers won a third-straight game by defeating the Dallas Mavericks at home, 133-111. Myler Turner led the Pacers with 33 points as Indiana improves to 33-25 on the season. The Pacers are home again tonight against the Toronto Raptors at 6:00 PM.
