Mount Vernon Police Department officials arrested two people for outstanding warrants. On Sunday, an officer saw a man, later identified as Bentley Brown, leave the Casey’s General Store on East 4th Street in Henderson. The officer was able to verify that Brown was wanted for an outstanding warrant from Henderson for Felony Theft. Officers say they conducted a traffic stop on Brown’s vehicle where he was then stopped and arrested for the outstanding warrant. According to a press release, officers could smell what they suspected was marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found multiple illegal substances inside. One of the passengers in the car, later identified as Kirstin Thompson, claimed possession of illegal drugs and pills that were found. Officers say after a warrant check, Thompson was wanted for an outstanding warrant from Gibson County for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Marijuana. Both Thompson and Brown were transported to the Posey County Jail. 

 

Mt. Vernon Police says shots were fired Thursday night into a house. It happened in the 700 block of W. 7th Street. Police say people were inside the home at the time, but nobody was hit. They say shell casings were collected, and they are also collecting surveillance video from the area. Posey County Council on Aging will be offering Free tax filing services starting tomorrow and will be each Tuesday through April 9th starting at 10:00 AM. The location is 611 West 8th Street in Mt. Vernon. The volunteers preparing the returns are trained and certified by the IRS. Businesses and farms are not eligible for this service. Appointments are required. United Way of Posey County posted on Facebook that they are selling Hawg n’ Sauce goodies for a fundraiser. Pick-up date and time is February 16th from 9:00 AM until Noon. The United Way of Posey County gets 40% back, so it’s a chance to help them and enjoy some great food at the same time. They encourage you to let them know your selection soon if interested.

 

Coming up tonight on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com, it’s the Mt. Vernon Basketball Coaches Show at 6:00 PM. The show will be broadcast live from United Fidelity Bank in Mt. Vernon with host Allen Buck and Wildcats Head Coach Joe Newcomb. Mt. Vernon is 10-8 on the year and will have two games this week. They are home against Memorial tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM and then will travel to Boonville on Friday at 7:00 PM.

The North Posey Boys Basketball team has a busy week coming up. They are 13-3 on the season and will return to action at home tomorrow night against Mt. Carmel at 7:00 PM. Then on Friday the Vikings welcome Southridge at 7:00 PM and will head to Perry Central on Saturday at 7:00 PM.

 

From Men’s College Basketball yesterday #2 Purdue went on the road and took out #6 Wisconsin, 75-69. Lance Jones led the Boilermakers in scoring with 20 points and Zach Edey put together a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Purdue has won 7-straight games to improve to 21-2 overall and 10-2 in the Big 10. They welcome IU on Saturday night.

#14 Illinois outlasted Nebraska at home, 87-84 in overtime. Coleman Hawkins poured in 20 points to pace the Illini as they have now won 3-straight games to run their record to 17-5 and 8-3 in the Big 10. They journey to Michigan State on Saturday.

 

From the NBA on Sunday, the Indiana Pacers were able to end a 3-game slide with an easy 115-99 victory at the Charlotte Hornets. Pascal Siakam had 25 points for Indiana. The Pacers are now 28-23 and will return home tomorrow night to play the Houston Rockets.
