Another public meeting was held last Thursday about a proposed data center that could be built in Posey County. The potential development site is located near the intersection of Boberg and Hoenert Roads. The project continues to draw strong public interest, with another large crowd attending last week's meeting after hundreds of residents packed a meeting on the issue last month. While several farmers say they've been approached about leasing their land for a possible data center, the Posey County Area Plan Commission says no formal application has been submitted. Many residents remain opposed to the project and are urging county leaders to take steps to prevent a data center from being built in the area. Last Thursday's meeting lasted about four hours as the committee discussed possible ordinances that would regulate data centers if a proposal is eventually submitted. Residents also asked questions about the proposed regulations and what options may exist to stop a project from moving forward. County leaders say public input will continue to play an important role in the process. The committee is expected to revise a draft of the proposed ordinances before holding a special meeting on the issue sometime in the coming months.

Last week, we reported on singer John Mellencamp having an open rehearsal at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville. Admission to the event was a donation to benefit the Evansville Rescue Mission, and officials say the community delivered. Attendees brought boxes of diapers, cases of bottled water, canned food and other much-needed supplies. In all, the Rescue Mission collected more than 2,100 food items, 300 hygiene products, 77 boxes of diapers, wipes and feminine hygiene products, along with 12 boxes of toilet paper and paper towels. Mission officials say the donations will go directly toward helping the men, women and children they serve every day, calling the community's generosity an overwhelming success.
