A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday evening across much of the Tri-State. Afternoon heat index values will climb to between one hundred and one hundred five degrees, with some locations feeling as hot as one hundred ten tomorrow afternoon. We'll also see several chances for showers and thunderstorms over the next few days. Stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and keep an eye on the sky for developing storms.
Health officials continue monitoring the Cyclospora outbreak affecting several Midwestern states, including Indiana. The outbreak began earlier this spring and has been linked by federal investigators to contaminated shredded iceberg lettuce served at some Taco Bell restaurants. While the investigation continues, local restaurants say they're reviewing produce handling procedures and reinforcing food safety practices. Health officials are also reminding consumers to thoroughly wash fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
Area drivers are reminded to stay alert after a wrong-way driver was arrested on the Lloyd Expressway Saturday night. Evansville Police say dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from motorists reporting a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on the highway. Officers quickly located the vehicle and safely stopped the driver before anyone was hurt. The driver was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A commercial fire at Bucks and Jakes Outfitters on Evansville's west side early Saturday morning was kept from becoming much worse thanks to the building's automatic sprinkler system. Perry Township firefighters were dispatched just after midnight after a commercial fire alarm was activated. When crews arrived, they found a small fire inside the business, but the sprinkler system had already kept the flames from spreading. Firefighters quickly brought the situation under control. The building sustained smoke and water damage, but no injuries were reported.
The Vanderburgh County 4-H Fair gets underway today and continues through Sunday, July twenty-sixth. Fair officials expect around forty-five thousand visitors during the week for livestock shows, exhibits, carnival rides, live entertainment, and family activities. Carnival rides open at five o'clock this afternoon, and tonight's grandstand event features motocross racing beginning at seven o'clock.
