Business owners and residents impacted by severe storms and tornadoes on July 9th are now eligible to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Officials say the declaration covers Posey and Gibson County and the nearby counties of Knox, Pike, Vanderburgh and Warrick in Indiana. The outreach center in Posey County is at Posey County EMA on 311 Mill Street in Mt. Vernon. The outreach center in Gibson County is set up at the Owensville Fire Department on 200 S 1st Street in Owensville.  Both locations are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The last day the centers will be open will be on Saturday, August 10th. You can visit the U.S. Small Business Administration’s website for more details.

 

The United Way of Posey County has announced in a press release that they have funds available for 501 (c)(3) groups that aim to improve the life of Posey County residents. Details on assistance and funding support can be obtained by contacting Keely Winiger, the executive director of the United Way of Posey County, by calling 812-838-3637. The deadline to apply for assistance is September 13th. More information and a copy of the application can be found online at unitedwayposeycounty.org.

 

There is a community blood drive today in Poseyville. It is at the Poseyville Community Center from 1:30 PM until 6:00 PM. They ask that you set up an appointment ahead of time by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. That is 1-800-733-2767.

 

Tomorrow evening there is another Poseyville Farmer’s Market at the Community Center from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. It is located at 60 North Church Street in Poseyville. Tuesday night’s theme is Shuck It Up. There will be a corn shucking competition at 6:00 PM. It will have three age categories, it’s a timed event, and there will be prizes. You can also enjoy a game of Corn Hole and the Cheese Queen Food Truck will be in attendance as well.

 

The Deaconess Mobile Mammogram unit will be providing screening mammograms this Thursday. No insurance is required for these screenings as the Posey County Health Department will cover the cost for those who need assistance. To schedule a mammogram, call 812-450-6266. If you need financial assistance for the screening, call the Posey County Health Department after your appointment is scheduled at 812-838-1330. The location for the screenings will be the IGA in Mount Vernon on Thursday between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Posey County Solid Waste District posted on Facebook that the August Tox-away day will be this Thursday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Mt. Vernon recycling center. For more information you can call 812-838-1613.

 

The North Posey Youth Football Camp begins tonight. That free camp at Joe Gengelbach Field will start at 6:00 PM and run until 7:30 PM this evening, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Presently there are around 100 kids signed up for the camp. If you have a kid that would still like to sign up, find the registration form on the North Posey Football Facebook page.

 

The Mount Vernon, Be The Best Athlete You Can Be camp is coming up tomorrow at the Wildcat Athletic complex. It is a student led camp that is free for all second through 5th graders. It is an agility camp that will begin at 8:00 AM on Tuesday morning for 2nd graders and progress with a different time slot for each grade. We are less than four weeks away from the opening night of High School Football. Friday, August 23rd is the first week for High School Football and the opening game will feature Mt. Vernon at North Posey. Once again this season, 106.7 FM WMVI and MountVernonRadio.com will be the home for Wildcats Football and 98.9 FM WPIW and NorthPoseyRadio.com will be the home for Vikings Football.

This past Saturday we had a summer update show for both teams. On the Mt. Vernon side, host Allen Buck talked with Head Coach Justin Fischer, Junior Brady Schickel, and Senior Drew Aaron. On the North Posey side, host Jordan Fisher caught up with Vikings Head Coach Waylon Schenk, Coach Sean Fisher, and Senior Ty Mauck. Both shows are archived online at PoseyCountyRadio.com. The first day of official Football practice for all IHSAA member schools is next Monday, August 5th. They will have three days of non-contact practices and then on Thursday, August 8th teams can have contact practices. The scrimmage date is Friday, August 16th and Week 1 is Friday, August 23rd.

 

The St. Louis Cardinals avoided a 3-game sweep at home against the Washington Nationals on Sunday with a 4-3 win. Paul Goldschmidt cranked a walk-off home run in the 9th to give the Redbirds the win. The Cardinals improve to 54-51 on the season. They begin a 3-game series at home this evening against the Texas Rangers at 6:45 PM. You will be able to hear the game on 106.7 FM WMVI.

The Chicago Cubs pulled out a 7-3 win in Kansas City against the Royals on Sunday. Chicago is now 51-56 on the year. They head to Cincinnati for a 3-game series with the Reds that begins tonight at 6:10 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds fell in their finale yesterday at the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1. The Reds slip to 50-55 on the season.
