After a couple of weather-related delays, the live horse racing season at Ellis Park got underway over the weekend. Under rules from the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority, horses cannot race when the heat index reaches 105 degrees or higher. Ellis Park's live racing season runs through August 23rd. Track officials say they're taking extra precautions during the summer heat by ensuring plenty of water is available for the horses, jockeys, and race fans. Stakes action continued yesterday with the Pea Patch Stakes. Live racing is also scheduled for today to make up for races postponed last Thursday. After today's card, racing resumes later in the week on Thursday through Sunday. This Thursday’s races are from last Friday’s postponement.
