The Posey County Trail Coalition has begun work on the county’s first-ever Trails Master Plan and is inviting residents and community stakeholders to take part in the planning process. Officials say the master plan will examine existing and future trail networks across Posey County and develop recommendations for trail improvements, new programs and activities, and possible funding opportunities. The plan is intended to serve as a long-term guide for trail development over the next 10 years and beyond. Two stakeholder meetings are scheduled today. The first meeting will be held from 10 until 11 at the Hovey House in Mount Vernon. And the second meeting is scheduled from 1:30 until 2:30 at the Poseyville Community Center. A public open house for all community members will also be held June 1st from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Posey County Fairgrounds Community Center Building in New Harmony. Organizers say the open house will include opportunities for residents to share ideas and feedback regarding future trail development throughout the county. Additional information is available through the Posey County Trail Coalition.
Local dispatch officials would like to remind the public that 911 should only be used for emergencies requiring immediate police, fire, or medical response. Officials say non-emergency calls such as VIN inspections, parking complaints, or general information requests can tie up dispatchers who may be needed for life-threatening situations. If you need non-emergency assistance in Posey County, residents are asked to call 812-838-1320.
