On Saturday up in Bloomington at the Indiana Senior’s Softball All-Star Games, North Posey Softball Head Coach, Gary Gentil was named Indiana Softball Hall of Fame Coach of the Year. Gentil and the Vikings completed a perfect season a few weeks ago when they won the Class 2A State Championship. Erin Hoehn who was a finalist for Indiana Miss Softball, did not win the award when it was announced on Saturday. Keagan Rothrock from Roncalli High School won the award. Hoehn did participate in the All-Start Games on Saturday though.

 

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 69. Starting either today or early this week, crews will close State Road 69 in Posey County for an emergency railroad crossing repair. This closure will occur between Old Highway 62 and Lamont Road near Mt. Vernon. During the closure crews will replace the current crossing. Work is expected to take a week to complete, depending on the weather. The official detour for this project is State Road 62 to U.S. 41 to State Road 66. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure.

 

North Posey Junior High Cheer Program posted on Facebook that they will be hosting a Car Wash today from 3:00-6:00 PM at Discount Tire on Evansville’s West Side. They encourage the community to come support by donating and getting your car washed.

 

The Willow Tree of Posey County is having their 80’s Pop Culture Trivia Night tomorrow at 5:30 PM. The event will be hosted by Hawg N Sauce in Mt. Vernon. You can find the link to get your tickets ahead of time on our Facebook page, or in the news section at poseycountyradio.com.

 

The Mt. Vernon Park and Recs Department posted on Facebook that you can now sign up for the Brittlebank Pool July Session Swim Lessons. Lessons will be on Wednesday and Thursday morning from July 5th through the 27th. The deadline to sign up for the lessons is July 3rd. If you are unsure of the level your child should be in, they will receive an evaluation on the first day to determine the appropriate level. You will receive an email before the first meeting regarding times.

 

The Posey County Sherriff’s Office is accepting applications for Deputy Sherriff. You can obtain an application at the office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Starting pay for Deputy Sherriff is 54,713 dollars, with full benefits and retirement.

 

Sports

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (32-45) are off this evening and will return to action tomorrow night when they host the Houston Astros for a 3-game series.  

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (37-39) are also off tonight. They are back at home tomorrow evening against the Philadelphia Phillies.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (41-37) hit the road for a 3-game series in Baltimore tonight. Reds hoping to avoid a 3rd-straight loss. First pitch at 6:05 PM.  

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (34-45) head out west to begin a series at the Los Angeles Angels at 8:38 PM.
