North Posey Softball (28-0) is back in the Class 2A State Finals for a second-straight year, after winning both of their Semi-State games on Saturday. The Vikings won a marathon game to start the day on Saturday against Cascade, 2-1 in 12 innings. They followed that win by cruising past Houser, 10-0 in the night cap. North Posey will play Andrean (29-7) on Friday at 4:30 PM in the Class 2A State Championship game at Purdue University. You will be able to hear the game on 98.9 FM WPIW, 106.7 FM WMVI, and poseycountyradio.com. Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast.

 

A man was arrested after police found meth, along with marijuana and THC candy on him in Posey County. The Posey County sheriff says that a deputy stopped Robert Kester for a traffic stop and that Kester’s pupils seemed dilated. The deputy searched Kester and his car and that’s when he found a pocketknife, marijuana in baggies, and THC candy. After attempting to escape handcuffs, the sheriff says Kester was placed in the back of a cop car. Upon a further search, the deputy says that he found more than 15 grams of meth. At least one bag tested positive for fentanyl. Kester is booked into the Posey County Jail on drug possession charges.

 

The University of Southern Indiana will hold a public forum for public comment on proposed tuition and mandatory fees for the next two academic years. The public hearing will take place on campus at 2:30 PM today, in the Griffin Center. Under Indiana Code, each state educational institution is required to set tuition and fees for a two-year period following the adoption of the State’s biennial budget and to hold a public hearing before the adoption of any proposed rate increases. The University proposes that tuition for a full-time, in-state resident, undergraduate student be set at $8,751 in 2023-24, an increase of approximately $276. In 2024-25, the University proposes tuition be set at $9,036, an increase of approximately $285. Officials say the increased student fees will be used for operational expenses of the University.

 

Allegiant Air is wheels up from Evansville to Destin, Florida again. The airline started it’s summer schedule back to the popular tropical destination last Friday. Officials say the flights will run on Monday’s and Friday’s. Airport officials say the flights will run this season through mid-August. Allegiant also flies to the Sanford Florida Area out of Evansville year-round.

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (25-35) got swept in Pittsburgh by the Pirates on Sunday, falling 2-1.   

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (26-32) earned a 7-1 win out west in San Diego against the Padres.   

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (26-33) lost a 4th-striaght game at home against the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (26-35) won a 3rd-straight game at home over the Detroit Tigers, 6-2.

 

  • Game 2 of the NBA Finals took place last night in Denver and the Miami Heat edged the Nuggets, 111-108. The Finals are now tied 1-1 and shifts to Miami for Game 3 on Wednesday.
