Evansville Water and Sewer Utility officials are preparing for their annual disinfectant switch beginning this week. EWSU says customers may notice a slight change in the smell or taste of their water during the process, but officials stress there is no cause for concern. Utility leaders say the temporary switch helps maintain water quality and keeps pipes throughout the system clean. The disinfectant change begins today and is scheduled to continue through June 29th.
In local high school sports this past weekend, North Posey Baseball earned a win at home on Saturday vs Mt. Vernon, 7-6. Zeke Roosevelt had 3 RBI in the victory for the Vikings. North Posey improves to 13-12 on the season and takes on Memorial at home this evening at 5:00 PM. Mt. Vernon has lost 3-straight games and are 7-11 on the year. They are at Norris City tonight at 4:30 PM.
North Posey Softball lost to Barr-Reeve at home on Saturday, 5-1. Vikings Softball has lost 3-straight games and are 13-14 overall. They are back in action tomorrow evening at home vs Perry Central.
Mt. Vernon Softball won both of their games over the weekend. On Friday, they cruised past Forest Park at home, 13-3. Then on Saturday they won again at home vs Tell City, 7-2. Wildcats Softball is 14-6 and welcomes Memorial tonight at 5:30 PM.
From local College Baseball over the weekend, the regular season came to an end for both USI and Evansville. USI Baseball won 2-of-3 at home vs Lindenwood and finished the regular season with a 27-27 record and 10-17 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Screaming Eagles are the #8 Seed in the OVC Tournament and play #5 Seed Morehead State on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. The first day of the 8-team tournament is single elimination. Then after the first day, it’s a 6-team double elimination tournament. The OVC Tournament is held at Mt. Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.
Evansville Baseball lost 2-of-3 at home vs Murray State in their final regular season series. The Purple Aces were 20-31 in the regular season and 13-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference. They are the #5 Seed in the MVC Tournament this week. UE plays their first tournament game on Wednesday at 11:00 AM vs #4 Seed Southern Illinois. It’s a 6-team double elimination tournament, hosted by Murray State.
In Major Leage Baseball on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals had their 3-game winning streak come to an end as they failed to complete the 3-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals at home. The Cardinals were shutout, 2-0 in the finale. St. Louis is 27-19 and have today off. The Redbirds are home again on Tuesday night for a 3-game series vs the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Chicago White Sox took 2-of-3 from the Chicago Cubs on the south side of Chicago as the White Sox won yesterday, 9-8 in 10 innings. The White Sox are 24-22 and start a 3-game series at the Seattle Mariners this evening at 8:40 PM. The Cubs are 29-18 and return home to begin a 3-game set vs the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at 6:40 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds lost the rubber game of their 3-game series at the Cleveland Guardians, 10-3. The Reds are 24-23 on the season and are in Philadelphia tonight for the opening game of a 3-game series against the Phillies at 5:40 PM.
