Tomorrow is election day and voting centers will be open from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM in Posey County. There are numerous locations that you can vote at, as long as you are a registered voter in Posey County. These locations include Cynthiana Community Center, Immanuel Church of Christ, Knights of St. John, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon Community Church, New Harmony Fire Department, Posey County Community Center, Poseyville Community Center, St. Peter’s on the Hill, and Wadesville Fire Department. There is early voting that is available at the courthouse today from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

 

The MSD of North Posey says they are currently seeking bus drivers for the 2024-2025 school year as well as applications for substitute drivers. They say they will assist with reimbursement for driver training fees. They are hosting the ELDT State Training Class on May 15th-17th. Behind the Wheel training starts in June. In local high school sports action from over the weekend…on Friday North Posey Softball got beat at home by Jasper, 7-0. The loss snapped the Vikings’ 5-game winning streak.

Mt. Vernon Softball split a pair of games on Saturday as the Wildcats beat Pike Central, 8-1 and then got shutout by Jasper 10-0. Mt. Vernon Softball is 10-10 on the year and 5-5 in the PAC.

North Posey Baseball keeps on winning as they thumped Pike Central on the road Saturday, 11-0. The Vikings run their record to an impressive 17-2 mark and 8-1 in the conference.

 

In local college baseball from over the weekend…the Evansville Purple Aces went up north to Valparaiso and took 2-of-3 against the Beacons in a conference series. UE won the first game on Friday, 13-1 in 7 innings. They got beat on Saturday, 8-4. The Aces then bounced back and took the finale on Sunday, 9-0. North Posey High School graduate, Shane Harris earned the win on the mound…as Harris threw a career-high seven scoreless innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out a career-high eight batters. Evansville has won six-straight MVC series, and they are now 27-20 overall and 14-7 in the MVC. They will host USI tomorrow night at 6:00 PM at Charles H. Braun Stadium.

USI Baseball had a strong weekend at home as they swept SIU Edwardsville in a three-game OVC series. The Screaming Eagles won on Friday, 5-1…then on Saturday, 11-6…and finished off the sweep on Sunday, 13-9. USI improves to 22-26 on the year and 11-10 in the OVC.

 

From Major League Baseball on Sunday…the St. Louis Cardinals dropped a game and the series at home against the Chicago White Sox, 5-1. Chicago scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie. The White Sox took 2-of-3 in the series. The Cardinals fall to 15-19 on the season and will start a three-game series at home tonight with the New York Mets at 6:45 PM.

The Chicago Cubs blanked the Milwaukee Brewers at home, 5-0. The Cubs took 2-of-3 in the series to improve to 21-14 as they are now tied with the Brewers for first place in the Central Division. The Cubbies stay home this evening to begin a new series with the San Diego Padres at 6:40 PM.

The Cincinnati Reds have now lost five-straight games as they got blasted at home by the Baltimore Orioles, 11-1. Cincy falls to 16-18. The Reds are off tonight before hosting the Arizona D-Backs tomorrow night.

 

From the NBA Playoffs this evening…the Indiana Pacers get their second-round series underway with Game 1 in New York against the Knicks at 6:30 PM. The Pacers beat the Milwaukee Bucks in six games in the first-round. It was Indiana’s first playoff series win since 2014.
