The man accused of stealing a Bud Light beer truck and leading police on a chase through two counties is expected to plead guilty. Randall Baker was arrested in March after investigators say he stole the semi in Vanderburgh County, triggering a pursuit involving Evansville police and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say the chase ended in Posey County after the truck crashed into a patrol vehicle, narrowly missing a sheriff's deputy, before coming to a stop in a field near State Road 165. Baker is scheduled to enter a guilty plea during a change of plea hearing on August 25th.
Three people are facing charges after a disturbance outside an Evansville bar early last Thursday morning. According to the Evansville Police Department, officers were called to Sportsman's on West Franklin Street after the manager reported disorderly patrons and said a fight appeared to be breaking out. Police say one of the main people involved was identified as Real Hailey-Hurtz. When officers arrived, they said several people became loud and aggressive, with Real Hailey-Hurtz and Raymond Hurtz repeatedly ignoring commands to stay back and interfering with the investigation. Investigators say officers had to push Real Hailey-Hurtz back several times before taking him into custody. They say Raymond Hurtz also continued approaching officers while yelling and refusing commands before he was arrested. Police also arrested Jazlynn Cason, alleging she ignored repeated orders to back away from the scene. All three are facing charges in connection with the incident.
An Evansville man is in the Vanderburgh County Jail after investigators say a 3-year-old girl suffered life-threatening injuries consistent with child abuse. According to the Evansville Police Department, the child was taken to the hospital on February 27th with a headache and severe bruising to both ears. A CT scan revealed skull fractures and a brain bleed, and she was later transferred to Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville for specialized treatment. Court documents say Jonathan Drury brought the girl to the hospital after picking her up for a scheduled weekend visit. Investigators later learned the child had been staying with her mother, Francheska Estes, and Cyrous Baker. Police say the girl's mother told detectives the child had no visible injuries before she left for work the night before. The next morning, she noticed bruising on the child's ears. As part of the investigation, the Department of Child Services had the girl's two siblings evaluated. Police say doctors found injuries on the 4-year-old, who told investigators Baker had squeezed her neck. Following the investigation, Cyrous Baker was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
