The 167th Posey County Fair begins on Monday with the Pre-Fair starting this Saturday with the Posey County Royalty Pageants at 6:00 PM. Dave Hertel caught up with 2025 Miss Posey County Jaycee Jarvis to talk about the full schedule of family fun that is planned next week. There is a Christmas in July event at Harmonie State Park this Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM there will be cookie decorating and crafts. Then, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM you can participate in water relay races. Santa Claus will be available for pictures in the Nature Center from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. There will be a play in the snow foam machine active from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Ice Cream will be for sale from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday as well. There is a gate fee that applies. The event is sponsored by Friends of Harmonie State Park.
This Saturday Cynthiana is having their Annual Town-Wide Yard Sale and Smith Township Volunteer Fire Department Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will be toys, clothes, décor, furniture, appliances, and hidden treasures throughout the town-wide yard sale. The post has a QR code that has the yard sale map, or you can pick up a map at the fire station on Saturday.
In Major League Baseball yesterday, the St. Louis Cardinals snapped a 4-game losing streak as they won at home vs the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1. Jordan Walker and Alec Burleson each had 2-hit game. Walker drove in a run, and Burleson drove in 3 runs, while also connecting on his 15th home run of the year. Jose Fermin cranked his 4th home run of the season. St. Louis starting pitcher Michael McGreevy earned the win as he allowed just 1 run over 6.1 innings. The Cardinals are 48-43 overall and conclude their 5-game series at home with the Brewers tonight at 6:45 PM.
The Chicago Cubs won their 3rd-straight game as they outslugged the Orioles in Baltimore, 9-7. Seiya Suzuki blasted a 3-run home run for his 14th of the season. Chicago hit 5 home runs in the game as Pete Crow-Armstong connected twice for his 20th and 21st home run of the year. Michael Conforto blistered his 8th home run, and Carson Kelly clobbered his 5th home run of the season. The Cubs are 52-40 and go for the 3-game sweep in Baltimore this afternoon at 12:35 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds slugged their way to an 11-5 win at home over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Noelvi Marte collected 4 RBI and hit his 6th home run of the season. Sal Stewart launched 2 home runs for his 18th and 19th of the year. Stewart had 3 RBI in the game. Elly De La Cruz and JJ Bleday each hit their 14th home run of the season. The Reds are 42-49 on the year. Cincinnati and Philadelphia have split the first two games of the series and conclude the 3-game set this evening at 6:10 PM.
The Chicago White Sox got shutout at home by the Boston Red Sox, 5-0. They have been outscored 13-1 through the first two games of the series. The White Sox are 47-44 and look to salvage a game in the 3-game series this afternoon at 1:10 PM.
