The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 69. Starting on or around Monday, June 26th, crews will close State Road 69 in Posey County for an emergency railroad crossing repair. This closure will occur between Old Highway 62 and Lamont Road near Mt. Vernon. During the closure crews will replace the current crossing. Work is expected to take a week to complete, depending on the weather. The official detour for this project is State Road 62 to U.S. 41 to State Road 66. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure.

 

The Mt. Vernon Park and Recs Department posted on Facebook that you can now sign up for the Brittlebank Pool July Session Swim Lessons. Lessons will be on Wednesday and Thursday morning from July 5th through the 27th. The deadline to sign up for the lessons is July 3rd. If you are unsure of the level your child should be in, they will receive an evaluation on the first day to determine the appropriate level. You will receive an email before the first meeting regarding times.

 

The Posey County Sherriff’s Office is accepting applications for Deputy Sherriff. You can obtain an application at the office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Starting pay for Deputy Sherriff is 54,713 dollars, with full benefits and retirement.

 

North Posey Softball’s Erin Hoehn will be playing in the Indiana All-Star Games this weekend. This Saturday, the 1st Team All-State Seniors will participate in the 2023 Indiana North/South Softball All-Star Games. The games are played at Indiana University’s Softball Field. All tickets are $5.00 each and sold at the gate. The first game will start at 9:15 AM CT/10:15 AM ET and the second game at approximately 11:30 AM CT/12:30 PM ET. In between the games the naming of Indiana's top softball player, "Indiana Miss Softball" will be announced. Erin is one of the final 5 candidates for this award.

 

The 3rd annual Poseyville Kiwanis Scholarship Ride is this Saturday, June 24th. Start and finish of the ride will be at the Poseyville Community Center, located at 60 N Church Street in Poseyville. Signups start at 9:30 AM and the first rider out will be at 10:30 AM. The prize will be awarded at 4:00 PM. Cost is 20 dollars per-rider.

 

St. Francis Church in Poseyville is having a Chops and Cheers event this Saturday, June 24th. Mass begins at 4:30 PM with the meal and music to follow at 5:00 PM. You must be at least 21 years of age to attend. Food, live music, and the beer garden is 20 dollars per-person. The planned menu includes pork chops, cheesy potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, roll, homemade dessert, and drink. Carry-out is available. If you want the beer garden only, the cost is 5 dollars per-person. The live music will be provided by JB and The Tried-and-True Band.

 

The annual Hadi Shrinersfest will get underway in downtown Evansville this weekend. The event will take place along Riverside Drive on Friday and Saturday. Live music, food, an LST-325 re-enactment, a beer garden, and more are all on the schedule. Organizers encourage you to bring things like folding chairs and blankets. The event will also include the drawing for the Hadi Shrine Half Pot on Saturday. The festival will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, with road closures starting on Riverside Drive sometime today.

 

Sports

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (31-44) are off tonight as they have made their way to London for a pair of weekend games with the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals had their 4-game winning streak snapped yesterday in Washington, 3-0. Cards and Cubs will play in London on Saturday at 12:10 PM and on Sunday at 9:10 AM.
