Indiana Governor, Mike Braun announced yesterday that he is extending the suspension of Indiana’s gas tax for another 30 days. Braun first signed the temporary suspension back on April 8th as fuel prices continued to rise during the war in Iran. The governor also announced a 30-day suspension of the state gasoline excise tax, which currently stands at 36 cents per gallon. Combined with the 7% gas tax, the suspended taxes total 59 cents a gallon this month. According to the governor’s office, the tax breaks are expected to give Hoosiers about a 12.4% discount on the average price of gasoline across the state. Officials also say this latest extension is the longest Braun can continue the suspension without calling a special session of the Indiana legislature.
