In another packed house, Posey County residents gathered for another discussion surrounding the possibility of future data center construction in the county. This time, county commissioners turned their attention to proposed changes to existing data center ordinances. Commissioner Greg Newman says the ordinances would apply to any data center looking to locate in Posey County. Two areas are being considered for revisions: construction noise regulations and requirements for water well testing. Newman says commissioners want to make sure the language is clear and any potential concerns are addressed before the ordinances are finalized. Data centers remain a major topic of concern for many Posey County residents. Among the issues raised are potential noise pollution, increased utility costs and possible impacts to local water quality. Others say they would like more information about what these projects could mean for the community. The discussion comes less than a month after Amazon hosted an open house for residents, as the company explores the possibility of building a data center somewhere in Posey County. Newman says making sure the county's ordinances are clear and up to date is a priority before any potential project moves forward. The proposed changes were tabled by commissioners and will be brought back for consideration at their next meeting, scheduled for November 17th.
Indiana drivers will continue to see savings at the gas pump for another month. On Tuesday, Governor Mike Braun signed executive orders extending the suspension of the state's Gasoline Excise Tax and Gasoline Usage Tax through December 4th. Braun says keeping more money in the pockets of Hoosier families and farmers remains a top priority. He says the extension will continue to provide relief at the pump while also protecting funding for the state's roads and infrastructure. Indiana has seen some of the lowest gas prices in the country over the past several months, with the gas tax suspension contributing to those savings. Braun says the state will continue using existing reserves to ensure INDOT can move forward with all planned fiscal year 2027 highway projects and maintenance without interruption.
