The MSD of North Posey Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Mr. Steve Kavanaugh as interim Superintendent. Mr. Kavanaugh is a long-time employee of the MSD of North Posey Schools, most recently serving as North Posey Junior High Principal. They say he has no interest in the permanent superintendent position, but the board believes Mr. Kavanaugh will provide stable transitional leadership to the corporation during a full and open superintendent selection process.

 

Week 6 of the High School Football season is tomorrow night, and the Mt. Vernon Wildcats will be on the road to play Boonville at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats are 4-1 on the season and have won 4-straight games. Boonville is 2-3 on the year. If you can’t make it to Boonville for the game, Chris Cooke and Allan Buck will have the radio broadcast for you on 106.7 FM WMVI and online at poseycountyradio.com. The pregame show tomorrow night gets underway at 6:45 PM.

The North Posey Vikings look to get back on track tomorrow night at Tecumseh at 7:00 PM. Last week the Vikings suffered their first loss of the year, 10-0 at Heritage Hills. North Posey is 4-1 on the season and they are ranked 8th in this week’s Class 2A AP Poll. Tecumseh is 0-5 on the year. Jordan Fisher and Chris Morlan will bring you all the action over the radio on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Their pregame show will start at 6:45 PM tomorrow night.

 

USI’s annual exhibition baseball game to benefit the fight against Friedreich’s Ataxia is right around the corner. The game, which will take place at Bosse Field on October 21st, will be against cross-town rival University of Evansville. Previous games of this sort for USI Baseball have had such schools as Indiana, Norte Dame, and Kent State come to town. Tickets go on sale on September 25th at the USI Athletics Ticket Office or UE Ticket Office and all Banterra Bank locations in Evansville and Newburgh.

 

Today is the final day to vote for Mt. Vernon Football’s Kortez Stewart for a couple of weekly awards. Stewart had a big game last Friday in the Wildcats 42-20 win at home against Forest Park. Stewart had 273 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. He is in the running for both the Home Team Friday’s and Courier and Press Week 5 MVP. Mt. Vernon Football will be on the road tomorrow night at Boonville, but when they return home a week from tomorrow for their Week 7 game against Heritage Hills, there will be an exciting event before the game. On Friday September 29th, Mt. Vernon is having an All-In Community Partner Tailgate. They encourage you to head to Memorial Field early next Friday before the Wildcats kick off against Heritage Hills. The tailgate will begin at 5:15 PM. You will have the chance to interact with 32 Posey County businesses and organizations. It will also be a chance to enjoy fun activities, receive promotional giveaways and learn about services and career opportunities. Grab a raffle check-in sheet at the All-In Friday booth and get initials from booths to enter a swag raffle which will be awarded between the third and fourth quarters of the game. You are encouraged to spread the word and support local businesses and groups that make Posey County special.

  • Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer is on the road to play at Boonville tonight at 5:30 PM.
  • Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis heads to Tecumseh at 5:00 PM.
  • North Posey Volleyball welcomes Tecumseh this evening. The JV match is at 5:30 PM.  and the Varsity match will be around 7:00 PM.
  • North Posey Girls Soccer journeys to Heritage Hills at 5:30 PM.
  • North Posey Boys Soccer also plays at Heritage Hills at 7:00 PM.

 

  • Evansville Women’s Soccer is home tonight against Valparaiso at 6:00 PM.
  • USI Women’s Soccer hits the road to battle Arkansas Little Rock at 6:00 PM.

 

Sports From Wednesday:

  • Mt. Vernon Volleyball (9-7) was at home last night taking on Memorial and the Wildcats lost in straight-sets.  
  • North Posey Boys Tennis (9-8) earned a road win at South Spencer, 5-0.

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (67-85) lost last night at home to the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-2. The two teams wrap up their 4-game series today at 12:15 PM. The Redbirds are hoping to avoid a 3rd-straight loss and split the 4-game set. Catch the game on 106.7 FM WMVI.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (79-73) lost a slugfest in Chicago against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-7. They have split the first two games of the series and they play the finale tonight at 6:40 PM.

 

  • The Cincinnati Reds (79-75) got clipped at home by the Minnesota Twins yesterday afternoon, 5-3. The Reds have today off.
