Posey County Deputies say they got a tip that a car was heading through on I-64 that may contain a large amount a meth. Wednesday morning, they say they spotted the car and pulled it over. Deputies say they could smell marijuana, and the driver and passenger seemed nervous. They say the passenger was hiding nearly a pound of meth in the front of his pants. During a search of the car, deputies say they found other drug related items. The driver, 47- year-old Brandt D. White of Patoka, Indiana, and the passenger, 45-year-old Anthony Enriquez Apodaca, of Princeton, Indiana, were arrested on several charges, including dealing meth. They were booked into the Posey County Jail without bond.

 

A convicted drug dealer from Mt. Vernon will spend decades behind bars after authorities say he admitted to the crime. Wednesday afternoon, Robert Jacob Kester was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to Dealing in Methamphetamine. The prosecutor’s office says Kester admitted to having more than 90 grams of meth on June 1st. He also confessed to intending to deliver the meth to another person. At sentencing, the court heard evidence that Kester has two prior convictions for dealing in methamphetamine. Kester could have received at least 10 years at sentencing, but the judge gave him the maximum sentence of 30 years.

 

North Posey Vikings Youth Basketball signups are tonight from 6:00-7:00 PM in the North Posey High School Auxiliary Gym. If you can’t make it tonight, there will be another chance on Sunday from 4:00-5:00 PM. Forms will be available at sign-ups if you do not have one.

 

North Posey Football is home this Friday night and it is Homecoming for the Vikings. North Posey High School is encouraging the community to come and support all the athletic teams for the first annual Viking Fest. Teams will have booths set up with various items for sale. All proceeds will benefit each individual program. Booths open at 5:00 PM on Friday.

 

Mt. Vernon Football is home against Heritage Hills this Friday and there will be an exciting event before the game. Mt. Vernon is having an All-In Community Partner Tailgate. They encourage you to head to Memorial Field early on Friday before the Wildcats kick off against Heritage Hills. The tailgate will begin at 5:15 PM. You will have the chance to interact with 32 Posey County businesses and organizations. It will also be a chance to enjoy fun activities, receive promotional giveaways and learn about services and career opportunities. Grab a raffle check-in sheet at the All-In Friday booth and get initials from booths to enter a swag raffle which will be awarded between the third and fourth quarters of the game. You are encouraged to spread the word and support local businesses and groups that make Posey County special.

 

The annual Evansville Half Marathon will once again be taking over the streets of downtown Evansville this weekend. The main 13.1-mile race will begin at 7:00 AM on Saturday, along the Evansville riverfront, with the start of "The 5 Miler" beginning shortly after at 7:15 AM. The deadline to register online is two days prior to the race. Packet pickup will be located at the Ascension St Vincent YMCA located at 516 Court St., on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Race Day pickup will not be available.

  • Mt. Vernon Girls Soccer travels to Princeton at 5:30 PM.
  • North Posey Volleyball heads to Forest Park. The JV match will get underway at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match will be around 7:00 PM.
  • USI Men’s Soccer plays host to SIU Edwardsville at 7:00 PM.
  • Evansville Women’s Soccer is on the road at Southern Illinois at 6:00 PM.
  • The St. Louis Cardinals (69-89) are finishing up a 3-game series in Milwaukee right now against the Brewers. The two teams have split the first two games of the series.
  • The Chicago Cubs (82-76) hope to avoid a 3-game sweep in Atlanta against the Braves at 6:20 PM.
  • The Cincinnati Reds (81-78) have tonight off.
  • Counting tonight, there are only 4 days left in the Major League Baseball regular season. The Cubs are tied with the Marlins for the final wild card spot in the National League. The Marlins do have the tiebreaker if they finished tied at the end of the season. The Reds sit a game and a half back of both teams. The Marlins are in New York tonight to finish up a series with the Mets.

Sports From Wednesday:

  • Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer (8-7) lost at home against Washington, 2-1.
  • North Posey Volleyball (19-4) was able to pick up another win at home against Boonville in straight sets.

 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (69-89) got beat in Milwaukee by the Brewers, 3-2. The two teams have split the first two games of the series and wrap up the 3-game set today at 3:10 PM.
  • The Chicago Cubs (82-76) had a difficult loss last night in Atlanta, falling 6-5 in 10 innings to the Braves. Chicago looks to avoid the sweep tonight at 6:20 PM.
  • The Cincinnati Reds (81-78) suffered a tough 4-3 loss in Cleveland to the Guardians. The two teams split the brief 2-game set. The Reds are off today.
  • With 4 days left in the Major League Baseball Regular Season…the Cubs with last night’s loss are now tied with the Marlins for the final playoff spot in the National League. The Marlins would have the tiebreaker over the Cubs if they finished the season tied. The Reds are a game and a half back of both the Marlins and Cubs.
