Two people are facing drug charges following a disturbance investigation in Mount Vernon. According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of West Fourth Street on Monday to investigate a disturbance. While at the home, officers encountered 30-year-old Kiersten Singer and 46-year-old Robert Menser. Police say they detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the residence. Officers received consent to search the home and say they found glass pipes containing suspected methamphetamine, a baggie containing suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Singer and Menser were both arrested and booked into the Posey County Jail. Singer faces felony possession of methamphetamine, along with misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Menser faces felony possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The MSD of Mt. Vernon says they are currently looking for long-term substitute teachers. You can apply online at mvschool.schoolspring.com. They say that if you are already a substitute teacher with the MSD of Mt. Vernon, you can call the district office at 812-838-4471 to inform them of your interest. Long-term substitute teachers will receive teacher daily pay rate after 15 days of work.
Last night in local high school sports, North Posey Volleyball won in straight sets at Carmi. The Vikings have won four-straight matches to move to 5-3 on the year. North Posey Volleyball plays again this evening at Heritage Hills. The JV match is at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is at 7:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Volleyball is in action tonight as they are at home vs Reitz. The JV match begins at 5:30 PM, followed by the Varsity match at 7:00 PM.
In local college sports last night, USI Men’s Soccer lost at home to the University of Indianapolis, 1-0. The Screaming Eagles are 0-1-2 on the season.
This evening, USI Women’s Soccer welcomes Arkansas State University at 7:00 PM.
At the University of Evansville, the Purple Aces Women’s Soccer team has a home match vs Austin Peay at 6:00 PM.
From Major League Baseball on Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals won game two of their series at the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-6 in 10 innings. The Cardinals trailed 5-2 entering the 7th inning and scored two runs in the 7th and a run in the 8th inning to tie the game 5-5. St. Louis scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to take their first lead of the game and go on to win 8-6. Thomas Saggese went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, including his 4th home run. Leo Bernal, who made his major league debut earlier in the week on Tuesday, hit his first home run. Joshua Baez also had 2 RBIs in the win. The Cardinals have won the first two games of the series at the Dodgers and are 70-70 on the season. They go for the three-game sweep tonight at 9:10 PM.
The Chicago Cubs lost at home to the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-5. The Cubs have lost back-to-back games to the Brewers and are 78-62 overall. Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs in the loss for Chicago. Bregman also drilled his 24th home run. The Cubs look to split the four-game set tonight vs the Brewers at 6:15 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds earned a series win at home vs the San Diego Padres, 7-3. The Reds won 2-of-3 in the series to move to 67-73. Cincinnati had three home runs in the game. Juan Brito hit his 1st home run, Hector Rodriguez picked up his 5th home run, and JJ Bleday clubbed his 22nd home run. The Reds have today off, before starting a series at home vs the Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow night.
The Chicago White Sox got shutout in Houston by the Astros, 2-0. The White Sox only had three hits in the game. They are 73-66 and look to split the four-game series in Houston today at 1:10 PM.
