Search crews are continuing to look for a person missing in the Ohio River near Mount Vernon after a boat capsized over the weekend. Three people were aboard the boat when it capsized on Saturday morning. Two people were rescued after being swept downstream on logs, but they told first responders a third person was still in the water. Black Township Fire and Rescue crews were called to the river shortly after 9:00 AM on Saturday. Crews searched throughout the day using boats and drones, but water operations were suspended Saturday night because darkness limited visibility and mobility. The search resumed around 7:00 AM on Sunday and the boat was found on Sunday morning. Fire Chief Jay Price says motor problems and debris may have contributed to the accident. The operation has now transitioned from a rescue mission to a recovery effort involving multiple agencies, including Perry Township, Mars Township, Mount Vernon Fire Department, Point Township, Indiana conservation officers, Uniontown, Kentucky water rescue and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. Crews are focusing their search between mile markers 830 and 846 on the Ohio River. High water levels and heavy debris moving downstream continue to make the search more difficult. Crews are continuing operations in search of the missing person. Officials are asking the public to stay out of the water and avoid the boat ramp area at Canal and Water streets in Mount Vernon to keep the area clear for emergency crews.

A long-time Posey County restaurant is getting ready to close its doors. The Red Wagon Restaurant will serve its final meal on Sunday, August 30th, after nearly 18 years in business. In a release, the owners and operators say health concerns affecting key members of the staff led to the decision. They say they searched for a replacement team but ultimately decided closing was the best option. The owners say the closure marks the end of an era for a restaurant that has created countless memories for customers and the community. The restaurant first opened in October of 2008 as The Feed Mill. It was rebranded as the Red Wagon in 2011.

Evansville police are increasing enforcement efforts aimed at impaired drivers ahead of the Labor Day holiday. The Evansville Police Department says officers are partnering with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute as part of the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Starting tomorrow and continuing through September 7th, officers statewide will work overtime, conduct sobriety checkpoints and increase patrols to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police say preliminary 2025 data shows nearly 23 percent of Indiana traffic fatalities involved alcohol, while more than 41 percent involved drug impairment. Officers are reminding drivers to plan a safe, sober ride home before drinking and to never let someone who has been drinking get behind the wheel. Those hosting gatherings are also encouraged to make sure guests have a sober ride home. Police say anyone who sees an impaired driver should call 911. Officers also remind everyone to wear a seat belt, calling it the best defense against an impaired driver.
