Week one of the high school football season is complete and on Monday the Indiana Football Coaches Association rankings were released, with several tri-state teams receiving recognition. In Class 5A, Castle is ranked 4th and North is 15th. Class 4A has Heritage Hills ranked 11th and Reitz 15th. In Class 3A, Memorial is 1st, Gibson Southern 5th, with Mater Dei right behind at 6th. North Posey is ranked 10th in Class 2A. Then, in Class 1A, North Daviess is 9th, Springs Valley 11th, and Tecumseh is 15th.

Vernon show with Head Coach Brad Higginson and Jordan Fisher hosted the North Posey show with Head Coach Waylon Schenk. Both shows are archived on our website at poseycountyradio.com.
North Posey Football’s Remi Johnson is up for Courier and Press Player of the Week after his week one performance. In the Vikings 34-21 win at Southridge last Friday, Johnson caught nine passes for 66 yards and hauled in a touchdown. He also led the defense with 11 tackles and two interceptions. After years in the making, NewLife Rescue & Adoptions is preparing to officially open the doors to its brand-new facility in Mt. Vernon and they are inviting the community to come celebrate. NewLife Rescue & Adoptions will hold a ribbon-cutting for its new building at noon this coming Saturday, August 29th. The celebration is part of a two-day Grand Opening Adoption Fair taking place this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 PM at the new facility at 6500 Leonard Road N. in Mount Vernon. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the new building, meet some of NewLife's adoptable animals, and grab lunch from food trucks. The celebration could also be the perfect opportunity for some of NewLife's current residents to find homes of their own. Thanks to the ASPCA, all dog adoptions during the event will be sponsored with an approved adoption application. That means families who have been considering adding a dog to the household can meet available animals during the grand opening and potentially take home a new best friend without the usual adoption fee.
MSD of North Posey County says they are offering free developmental screening this year for children 3 to 5 years old that are living in the North Posey school district. Families who are concerned about their child’s development or speech skills may call for a no-cost appointment. Clinics will run once a month from September through April. Last night in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Volleyball won in four sets at Harrison. The Wildcats improve to 2-2 overall. Mt. Vernon Boys Soccer earned a 4-2 win at home vs Pike Central. It’s the Wildcats first victory of the season as they are 1-2.
North Posey Girls Soccer lost at home to Gibson Southern, 9-0. The Vikings are 0-3 on the season. North Posey Boys soccer lost at home vs Gibson Southern, 5-0 as they fall to 0-2 on the year.
In Major League Baseball this evening, the St. Louis Cardinals are back at home after a lengthy 11-game road trip. St. Louis welcomes the Baltimore Orioles for a 3-game series at 6:45 PM. The Cardinals are 66-66 overall.
Out west in Arizona, the Chicago Cubs play the middle game of their 3-game series at the Diamondbacks at 8:40 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds are also on the west coast in San Francisco play game two of their 3-game set vs the Giants at 8:45 PM.
The Chicago White Sox continue their 3-game series in Chicago with the Texas Rangers at 6:40 PM.
