Police in Mt. Vernon say they arrested two people on meth charges after an incident Sunday. Officers say they pulled over a vehicle on East 4th Street after spotting 39-year-old Amanda Fairchild, who is known not to have a valid license, behind the wheel. As officers were pulling the car over, they say they saw a white object get tossed out of the passenger-side window where 35-year-old Justin Springer was sitting. MVPD says the officers did find marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside, along with meth all over the inside of the car, baggies, and a snorting straw with meth residue on it. Spring and Fairchild were both arrested on felony meth charges and booked into the Posey County Jail.

28-year-old Gabrial Isaac Appel, of Cynthiana, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, Appel trafficked methamphetamine in the southwest Indiana area from November 2019 through 2020. Officials say in October 2020, Appel orchestrated the shipment of over 1.4 pounds of crystal methamphetamine from California to his parents’ house in Cynthiana. Law enforcement officers intercepted the meth before delivering the package to the home. They say Appel’s mother received the package and informed officers that she was getting it for her son, who sent text messages inquiring about the delivery. Appel also tracked the status of the package on his phone. Officials say they discovered Appel had shipped multiple packages containing meth to the same house over the past year. The judge also ordered Appel be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for five years following his release from federal prison.

Burdette Park officials say this summer was a record-breaking season for them. Park officials say 68,999 residents visited the pool, and they brought in over $5,000 in revenue for Vanderburgh County. Burdette Park director Zachary Wathen says over 100 employees helped the park break the records. Wathen also says over the 72-day season there were no injuries.
