Three people are facing multiple drug charges after a traffic stop in Posey County. According to the Posey County Sheriff's Office, deputies stopped a vehicle on Sunday on State Road 165 after spotting a traffic violation. During the stop, deputies say the driver, identified as Aaron Graves, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The investigation then led deputies to obtain a search warrant for a home in Poseyville. Inside, deputies say they found the homeowner, 44-year-old Lonnie Eagleson II, along with his girlfriend, 38-year-old Julie Kimmel. Authorities say the search turned up more than an ounce of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, and several items of drug paraphernalia. Graves, Eagleson, and Kimmel were all booked into the Posey County Jail and are facing multiple drug-related charges.
The Posey County Sherrif’s Office says that their annual National Night Out scheduled for this evening has been cancelled this year. They say that it is due to conflicting schedules with event organizers. They plan for it to return next year.
The Tri-State Food Bank is expanding access to groceries this month with six mobile food distributions scheduled across the region, including two in Evansville. The food bank says its mobile truck will provide boxes of shelf-stable groceries, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, to families in need. In Evansville, the first distribution will be held at Bosse Field on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 AM. The second is set for Tuesday, August 25th at 10:00 AM at Carriage House Apartments. That event will be walk-up only. No identification is required to receive food, but participants will be asked for their ZIP code and the number of people in their household. Each distribution is scheduled to last two hours, or until all available food has been distributed.
Yesterday was the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and the St. Louis Cardinals were among the busiest teams at this year’s trade deadline. They made several moves that signal an eye toward the future. St. Louis traded starting pitcher, Dustin May and left-handed reliever, JoJo Romero to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals received a pair of outfield prospects in the trade with the Brewers as Milwaukee sent 18-year-old Alexander Frias (Brewers #11 Prospect) and 22-year-old Josiah Ragsdale (Brewers #13 Prospect). Another move that St. Louis made right at the deadline was sending outfielder, Lars Nootbaar to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In the trade with Arizona, the Cardinals received pitching prosects Daniel Eagen and Sandro Santana, and a player to be named later. St. Louis also made a deal with the Cincinnati Reds as the Cardinals received left-handed relief pitcher, Caleb Ferguson for cash considerations.
The Chicago Cubs are in a much different position than the Cardinals are this season, as the Cubs are trying to bolster their roster for a deep playoff run in October. Chicago’s focus was improving their pitching staff. On Sunday, the Cubs picked up right-handed starting pitcher, Kevin Gausman from the Toronto Blue Jays. Then, yesterday in trades they added right-handed pitcher, Clay Holmes and outfielder, Tyrone Taylor from the New York Mets. The Cubs also picked up left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett from the Miami Marlins and right-handed pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn from the Los Angeles Angles.
In Cincinnati, the Reds stayed quiet at the deadline this season. Their main move was trading DH Nathaniel Lowe to the Cleveland Guardians for right-handed pitcher, Alejandro Rivera and second baseman, Juan Brito.
The Chicago White Sox after three-straight dismal seasons of a 100+ losses, find themselves in first place at the moment in the American League Central. Therefore, they were in a rare buy mode at this year’s deadline. On Sunday, the White Sox traded for veteran right-handed starting pitcher, Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners. The White Sox also added catcher, Joey Bart from the Atlanta Braves, centerfielder, Brenton Doyal from the Colorado Rockies, and relief pitcher, Huascar Brazoban from the New York Mets.
In Major League Baseball game action on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals won their series opener in New York as they outslugged the Yankees, 13-7. The Cardinals trailed 7-6 entering the 8th inning, before putting up 7 runs in the 8th inning. Alec Burleson went 3-for-5 with 6 RBI as he crushed three 2-run home runs. Burleson now has 18 home runs on the season. Nathan Church drove in 4 runs, while also hitting his 9th home run of the year. Jimmy Crooks swatted his 4th home run as well. The Cardinals improve to 56-57 overall and play the second game of their 3-game series at the Yankees this evening at 6:05 PM.
The Chicago Cubs took the opening game of their 3-game series at home with the Los Angeles Dodgers, 10-5. Carson Kelly and Michael Busch each had a 3-RBI game. Kelly hit his 7th home run and Busch hit his 14th home run. Also homering for Chicago was Seiya Suzuki for his 19th and Kevin Alcantara for his first career home run. The Cubs are 64-49 on the season. They play the second game of their series vs the Dodgers tonight at 7:05 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds were off last night, and they welcome the Athletics for a 3-game series this evening at 5:40 PM. The Reds are 53-58 on the year.
The Chicago White Sox also had yesterday off, and they are in Boston tonight for a 3-game set vs the Red Sox at 6:10 PM. The White Sox are 59-52.
