The Posey County Community Foundation has announced the recipient of the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship for Posey County. Lily Hagan of Mt. Vernon Senior High School is this year’s recipient. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars are known for their community involvement, academic achievement, character, and leadership. Lily plans to attend Indiana University or Notre Dame to study Business Finance. In addition to excelling academically, she has been involved in a variety of school activities including the Student Council, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Key Club, and FFA. She also volunteers her time with the Vanderburgh Humane Society, Adopt-A-Highway program, and is the founder of Volunteer Bridge of Posey County, and Mentors for Music. Lilly has held many leadership positions both in and out of school and has a strong work ethic.

Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years. Lilly Endowment created the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program for the 1998-99 school year and has supported the program every year since with grants totaling more than $505 million. More than 5,200 Indiana students have received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship since the program’s inception.

 

The Community Foundation Alliance announced the opening of the Gray Farms Presidents Scholarship. According to a press release, scholarships worth $1,000 will be awarded to two graduating high school seniors who attend a high school located in selected counties in Illinois, Indiana, or Kentucky, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 unweighted scale) and plan to attend an accredited college or university. Posey County is included in this. Applications for the Gray Farms Presidents Scholarship are now being accepted through the Community Foundation’s website. The press release states additional details regarding eligibility criteria and the scholarship application are also available. The application deadline is February 1st.

 

Evansville Men’s Basketball picked up another win at home last night as the Purple Aces defeated UT Martin, 98-91. Five UE players finished in double figures, led by Kenny Strawbridge Jr with 21 points. Ben Humrichous and Yacine Toumi each had 15 points, Tanner Cuff added 14 points and Chuck Bailey chimed in with 12 points. Evansville is now 9-2 on the year and will play at home again tomorrow night against Tennessee Tech at 7:00 PM.

Evansville Women’s Basketball fell big at Indiana, 109-56. They are now 2-8 on the season and will play again on Thursday at Southeast Missouri State at 11:00 AM.

The Indiana Pacers lost their 4th-straight game last night at home against the Los Angeles Clippers, 151-127. The Pacers slip to 13-12 on the year and will be home on Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets.

 

Coming up this evening in local sports…Mt. Vernon Boys Basketball hits the road to play the Heritage Hills Patriots at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats have a record of 4-2.

North Posey Boys Basketball journeys to Boonville for a 7:00 PM tipoff. The Vikings sit at 4-1 on the year.

In Girls Basketball…Mt. Vernon welcomes Central this evening at 7:00 PM…and North Posey plays host to South Knox.

USI Men’s Basketball hopes to snap a 3-game skid tonight with a non-D1 game at home against St. Francis at 7:00 PM. They are a NAIA team out of Illinois. The Screaming Eagles are 2-9 on the season.
