North Posey Baseball lost yesterday in the Class 2A Sectional 48 Championship game against Perry Central, 3-1. The Vikings season has come to an end with a record of 18-12.

Mt. Vernon Baseball got beat yesterday in the semifinal round of the Class 3A Sectional 32 at the University of Evansville. The Wildcats fell to Princeton, 12-2. Mt. Vernon’s season ends with a record of 4-19.

 

Coming up tonight North Posey Softball plays their Regional game against Sullivan, at Sullivan. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM. The Vikings have a perfect record of 25-0. You can hear tonight’s game on 98.9 FM WPIW and online at poseycountyradio.com. Chris Morlan will have the radio broadcast.

 

A playground that has been in the works for years in Mt. Vernon is nearing the end of a campaign goal. Avery’s Place Playground has a goal of $50,000 by June 15th. Organizers say it will be the first inclusive playground built in Posey County, and will be designed for all children, particularly those with disabilities. The playground will honor the life and memory of Avery Beste, who passed away in 2008, at the age of 18. The 8,000 square foot playground is to be built at Riverbend Park.

 

 

The Posey County Solid Waste District announced that this Thursday, June 1st will be the next monthly Tox-Away Day at the Mt. Vernon Recycling Center. It will last from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. It’s a chance to properly dispose of old household chemicals, and non-alkaline batteries. For more information, you can call 812-838-1613.

 

Carter’s Sauces posted on Facebook that the deadline for the 1st Annual Smoke Poseyville Event is this Thursday, June 1st. The event itself will take place on Saturday, June 17th at the Poseyville Community Center. Funds raised will go towards growing community events that focus on enhancing the childhood experience in and around Poseyville. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Black River Welcome Center in Posey County is getting a total makeover. The welcome center in New Harmony is along I-64 east near the Illinois-Indiana state line. Because of the renovations, the welcome center will be closed starting in June. They’re hoping to have it reopen in 2025. It will be completely demolished and reconstructed to look like a log cabin resembling President Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home. There will also be an exhibit on President Lincoln. INDOT says there will be expanded parking, new restroom facilities for truck drivers, a playground, and a dog park.

  • The Cincinnati Reds (24-29) start a series in Boston against the Red Sox at 6:10 PM.  

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (22-34) continue their series at home with the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 PM.

 

Sports From Monday: 

  • The St. Louis Cardinals (24-32) got shutout at home by the Kansas City Royals yesterday, 7-0. The two teams conclude their brief 2-game series tonight at 6:45 PM.

 

  • The Chicago Cubs (23-30) won a pitchers duel, 1-0 at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. Marcus Stroman threw a complete game, 1-hit shutout for the Cubs.

 

  • The Chicago White Sox (22-34) fell at home to the Los Angeles Angels, 6-4.
