The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Heat Advisory through Friday for the tri-state area, as a prolonged period of excessive heat settles over the region. Forecasters are expecting daily heat index values generally between 100 and 106 degrees, with actual temperatures climbing into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees later this week. And overnight temperatures won't provide much relief, with lows expected to remain in the mid-70s. Emergency officials are reminding residents to take the heat seriously, especially those who work or spend extended periods of time outdoors. Officials recommend drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks, and spending time in the shade or in air conditioning whenever possible. Residents should also watch for signs of heat-related illness, including muscle cramps or spasms, nausea, dizziness, weakness and fainting. Officials are reminding everyone to never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period of time. And with the prolonged heat expected to continue, residents are encouraged to check on elderly family members, neighbors and others who may be particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
Evansville will be in the national spotlight for BMX racing next year. The city has been selected to host the 2027 BMX Hoosier Nationals during Labor Day weekend at Burdette Park BMX. Organizers say the event is expected to bring about 500 of the nation's top BMX riders to Evansville, along with an estimated 2,000 spectators and attendees. The event is being organized through a partnership between Explore Evansville, the Evansville Regional Sports Commission, Burdette Park and Burdette BMX. The Hoosier Nationals are part of the USA BMX national series. USA BMX has more than 70,000 members and more than 300 sanctioned tracks across the United States and Canada. The 2027 event will also mark a major milestone for Burdette Park BMX, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The track was established in 1977 and is considered one of the oldest BMX tracks in the country. Explore Evansville officials estimate the event will generate about one million dollars in economic impact for the community. The 2027 BMX Hoosier Nationals will take place in Evansville over Labor Day weekend 2027.
North Posey Football, who is off to a 2-0 start, continues to receive recognition in the most recent Indiana Football Coaches Association rankings. The Vikings are currently ranked 9th in Class 2A. Other teams in the area that are ranked includes Castle who is ranked 7th in Class 5A. In Class 4A, Reitz is 13th. Several area teams are ranked in Class 3A with Memorial ranked 1st, Mater Dei 4th, and Gibson Southern 5th. In Class 1A, North Daviess is 7th and Springs Valley is 11th.

North Posey, who is 2-0 overall, is at home vs North Knox this Friday night for Week 3 and Mt. Vernon, who is 0-2 on the season, is at Gibson Southern on Friday evening.
It’s a busy night of high school sports tonight for North Posey and Mt. Vernon teams. North Posey Volleyball is at Central. The JV match starts at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match is at 7:00 PM. North Posey Boys Soccer is at Southridge at 7:00 PM. Vikings Girls Soccer hits the road to battle Wood Memorial at 5:00 PM. North Posey Boys Tennis has a home match with Gibson Southern at 4:30 PM. Vikings Girls Golf welcomes Pike Central for a 4:30 PM match.
Mt. Vernon Volleyball visits Boonville this evening. The JV match begins at 5:30 PM and the Varsity match follows at 7:00 PM. Wildcats Girls Soccer is also at Boonville at 5:30 PM. Mt. Vernon Boys Tennis is on the road at Central at 4:30 PM.
In local college sports tonight, the University of Evansville Volleyball team has their home opener vs Southeast Missouri State at 6:00 PM on campus at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.
In Major League Baseball on Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals had the day off. The Cardinals start a 9-game west coast road trip tonight in Los Angeles with the first of a three-game series at the Dodgers at 9:10 PM. St. Louis is 68-70 on the season.
In Chicago, the Cubs blasted the Milwaukee Brewers in the opening game of a four-game set, 17-3. The Cubs set a franchise record with nine home runs in the game. Alex Bregman led the charge with three home runs and four RBI. Chicago tallied 20 hits as a team. They are 78-60 on the year and continue their four-game series at home vs the Brewers tonight at 6:40 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds got shutout at home in their series opener vs the San Diego Padres, 5-0. The Reds got outhit 15-5 in the game. Cincinnati is 65-73 overall. Game two of the three-game series is tonight at 5:40 PM.
The Chicago White Sox lost the first game of a four-game series at the Hoston Astros, 6-3. Colson Montgomery hit his 29th home run of the season in the loss. The White Sox are 72-65. Game two of their series at the Astros is this evening at 7:10 PM.
