Authorities in Posey County are investigating a deadly crash that happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of State Road 62 and St. Phillips Road. The Posey County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the scene around 2:45 PM after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck with injuries. Investigators say a silver Yamaha motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Road 62, approaching the intersection, while a silver Chevrolet Silverado was stopped in the westbound lane, waiting to turn onto West Franklin Road. According to authorities, the pickup began its turn into the path of the motorcycle, and the two vehicles collided. The female rider of the motorcycle was critically injured and taken to a local hospital, where she later died. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members. The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt. He was taken to a hospital for a routine blood test as part of the investigation. Crash reconstruction crews from the Posey County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Indiana State Police, are continuing to investigate.
Last night in local high school sports, Mt. Vernon Baseball got beat at home by Forest Park, 10-3. The Wildcats have lost 4-straight games and are 4-5 on the season. They play again tomorrow evening at home vs Heritage Hills.
It took extra innings for North Posey Baseball to pick up a win at home over Tecumseh, 7-6 in 9 innings. The Vikings have won 3-straight games and are 7-4 overall. They are right back in action again tonight at home vs Harrison at 5:00 PM.
Mt. Vernon Softball has a game this evening at home with Central at 5:00 PM. Wildcats Softball is looking for a 3rd-straight win as they are 8-1 on the year.
North Posey Softball hopes to stop a 3-game losing streak tonight as they play at Princeton at 5:30 PM. Vikings Softball is 6-8.
It’s back-to-back nights that North Posey Girls Tennis has earned a sweep as last night that won 5-0 vs Princeton. Jaz Ward won her #1 Singles match 6-4, 7-6. At #2 Singles, Braelyn Barrett won 6-3, 6-1. Then at #3 Singles, Kylee Heath was victorious 6-4, 6-4. In Doubles action, at #1 Doubles, Haven Barton and Cassie Bender-Staples won 6-3, 6-3. At #2 Doubles, Mady Nightingale and Peyton Wassmer won 6-2, 6-1. Vikings Girls Tennis is 3-3 on the season.
The POPS Mt. Vernon Football Facebook page announced that there is a Meet and Greet with the Wildcats new Football Head Coach, Brad Higginson, on May 29th. In local college sports last night, Evansville Softball won at Northern Kentucky, 8-3. The Purple Aces have won 3-straight games and have improved to 20-22 overall.
This evening, Evansville Baseball plays at USI at 6:00 PM.
From Major League Baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals evened up their series at the Miami Marlins with a 5-3 win. Alec Burleson drove in a pair of runs and Nathan Church launched a 2-run home run for the Cardinals in the victory. St. Louis is 14-9 on the year and they go for a series win in the finale today at the Marlins at 11:10 AM.
The Chicago Cubs won their 7th-straight game as they took game two of their four-game series at home vs the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4. Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki each homered for the Cubs. They are 14-9 and continue their series with the Phillies tonight at home at 6:40 PM.
The Cincinnati Reds also continue their winning streak as they picked up their 5th-straight victory thanks to a 12-6 win at the Tampa Bay Rays. Elly De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI as he walloped two home runs. The Reds are 16-8 on the season and look to complete the 3-game sweep at the Rays this afternoon at 12:10 PM.
