The West Side Nut Club is calling on all talented young performers to try out for the Fall Festival Amateur Hour. Auditions will be held tonight and tomorrow night at the Mater Dei High School Auditorium. Auditions begin at 5:30 PM and officials ask that participants wear full costumes. The Amateur hour presents a variety of talented young people from the area. The Amateur Hour Contest is divided into three divisions. There is the Junior Division for pre-school through 5th grade, Middle School Division for 6th-8th grade, and the Senior Division for High School students in singing and dancing.  A category also exists for college aged students through 24 years old for vocal performances only. All acts will be limited to a five-minute performance time, and contestants may only enter twice. Once as a single act, and once as a group member. A much-needed cooling shelter in Evansville was forced to close on Tuesday over a broken air conditioning unit. In extreme weather, including heat like the temperature the Tri-State is battling this week, the CK Newsome Community Center is one of the places people can go. With that option now gone, people are flocking to the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library. All EVPL locations (not including McCollough Library) are open to the public from 9am-8pm Monday- Thursday. On Fridays, locations close at 6:00 PM.

The North Posey Football game at Princeton this Friday night has been pushed back to 8:00 PM due to the extreme heat. EVSC Athletics officials say all SIAC football games have been pushed back Friday as well. Both the Jasper at Harrison game and the Vincennes Lincoln at Reitz game are now at 7:30 PM. Bosse at Central and North at Memorial are at 8:00 PM.

The first AP High School Football rankings have been released after the first week of the season. In Class 4A, Reitz is 3rd and Memorial is 7th. Class 3A has Heritage Hills 8th and Gibson Southern 9th. In Class 2A, Mater Dei is ranked 1st. Teams that are receiving votes in their respective classes include North Posey, Southridge, Castle, and North.

Officials from Ellis Park Racing and Gaming announced Friday’s nine-race card has been postponed to Monday. They say that’s due to an excessive heat warning. Ellis Park officials say the entirety of Friday’s card will shift to Monday and will not be re-drawn. First post will be 11:45 AM. A release shows the final three days of the Ellis Park meet will be Saturday-Monday. At this time there are no changes to Saturday-Sunday’s cards and first posts are scheduled at 11:45 AM.
