Posey County Commissioners faced a packed room yesterday at the Hovey House in Mount Vernon, where residents voiced strong opposition to a proposed data center. Commissioners said they plan to vote against the proposed development near Boberg and Hoenert Roads. However, they noted they are still considering potential data center proposals in other parts of the county. Opponents delivered hundreds of letters urging county leaders to reject any future data center development. Many also called for a two-year moratorium to allow more time to study the potential economic, environmental, and infrastructure impacts of the projects. Although commissioners said they have not received a formal proposal, they acknowledged signing a non-disclosure agreement with a developer. That prompted concerns from several residents, who questioned whether information is being withheld from the public. Others told commissioners they remain hopeful county leaders will take residents' concerns into account before making any decisions. The meeting adjourned after public comments concluded.
